Following on from this thread:

I think we have a site for PERM track on the Farnham / Aldershot borders :woot::woot::woot::woot::woot::woot:.

I'm going to look tomorrow afternoon and take a full measure of the area and make a detailed site map. I think the track foot print could be around 20m x 80m + parking etc.

Luckily I know the site owner and he is happy to agree to either a fee per attendee or a monthly set fee. The site is great for travel and covered by CCTV and 12ft fencing. Good news is that this commerical site already has planning for a social/neighbourhood activity :woot:.

It has facilities for mains electric, water and plenty of hard standing for carpark.

I'll report back tomorrow - needless to say I'm rather excited by all this! :D

Yup

1st proper meeting ok.... took measurements. Writing up what I'd require in the next few days then meeting again on site on Monday AM :D.

Hardstanding for track is about 18m x 60m and 3 or four times that for pits/parking.

Hi All,

Developements on the track site -

Went to a council meeting yesterday and its a no go. The industrial land has a covenant that part of it must be used for 'sport and social' needs.

Council do not deem racing/club as a sport but a hobby. I guess fair play but still disapointing .

Not to be outdone, I'm back on the hunt :D

Hog

I would refer the council to the RACMSA (RAC Motor Sports Association) who recognise the BRCA and hence RC car racing as a legitimate branch of Motor Sport, not a hobby.

Dr_UpGrade
19-01-2011, 12:17 PM
Also is it not a 'social' need too? i.e. part of society will use this facility?

Dudders
19-01-2011, 12:23 PM
Thanks Hog, Will get back in touch.

Dr, Yes, but the council would prefer a Tennis Court or Basketball Court on the site for the companies staff...... even though it will be redundant by use.

Dr_UpGrade
19-01-2011, 12:28 PM
Must admit I don't know 'how' big, or how much room a tennis court can take up, but could there be room for both? - If they could get someone to actually put forward a plan for a tennis court too?

Dudders
19-01-2011, 12:32 PM
The council have already agreed a court, for tennis, basket ball, netball, 5 a side etc etc..... BUT they do not see the issue that it will never get used.

Which is why we went down the RC Track route....

Its historical on the site that part remains social / sport related, as well as 'business trade'.

Ah sorry Neil, if yer having to go back over old ground in explaining this (to me)! bit of a bummer re the short-sighted council...

Thanks Mikey, You'll be more than welcome but its a loooooong way off yet!. I see you have editted your post since I pressed quote (2 hours ago!).

I'd would have loved to have got involved with TORCH as its a great set up for the south , however the issue for me is the distance. I have the time and the passion but do not want to travel 50 mins each way on an evening after work to tend to the site. This place is 5 mins from my home so its pretty easy.

Plan is for grass mainly with concrete, tarmac and astro places. Covered pits: Yes, if you bring a Gazeebo!, plenty of parking for 100+ cars on grass/hard standing, camping, tintents. Power is an issue but we might be able to address this ala Caravan style hook ups. Still early days but keep the list of idea coming :cry:

Need to plan and design a rostrum now .....

If people know the area its pretty simple to work out ;). Its listed on our new facebook page now anyway :p

Looks like your a flat bottom racer so would need to spend some , might give you a winter / summer evening outlet though.

I think the scene is big enough not to take away from tarmac clubs  more the merrier

Looks good, so your thinking of putting a ramp as well as steps? now that sounds good to me, could you please e-mail me details to neilmartin80@hotmail.com please thanks again

Dudders
27-03-2011, 05:27 PM
YES, there WILL be a ramp on one side. I have a friend who teaches kids with disabilities so he wants to bring a few of them down as well.

Depending on the site, it might be steep thus you requiring a push up :D but it'll get you up.

All depends on the height. Got a meeting on site Tuesday AM.

Was that a quote for a custom-built rostrum or did you plan with scaffolding or similar?

Building a platform on top of your race control can work too if you use a container or something that will take the weight.

Just checked their Facebook page:

Rostrum arriving this week so we can be open for weekend / Evening practice sessions soon! Work party on Wednesday evening for a bit of shrubbery and block clearance. It'll be my round afterwards!

Ideally yes but the site is narrow at one end so didnt want to use up 3m + for it, so race control will be 90 degrees to the rostrum .

Built from new Scaffold so nice n shiney!!!
