Was initially a bit confused over the gearing, thought the standard tamiya 0.5 was a finer mesh than 48dp but understand that they are virually the same. If you are happy with the gearing range available from tamiya 0.5 is there any need to change?
Are 48dp gears stronger for use with a hot motor?

.5 pinions are a mare to find - I used 48dp pinions until I got the slipper on the DF03... then putting a B4 48dp spur and pads on it easy.
.5module and 48dp and very nearly the same, but not quite. I would rather run a known spur gear than a Tamiya one.

Thanks will take your advice.
On a similar subject any ideas how to stop ingress of very find sand and dust getting into the diffs and are there ways to get the diffs to act as limited slip other than tightening down the retainer bolt/spring
I don't understand what you mean, as a design, they are limited slip, but you really don't want the diffs to slip, they need to be tight enough so they just don't slip.
to stop dirt ingress, the gearbox joints, smear in grease, screw the cases together and wipe excess away.

What I meant was like a limited slip diff used on performance auto cars where if one wheel looses traction you still get power to the other.
thats what a ball diff is, effectively, and the DF-03 has.
has anyone else tried to get a hold of rw racings neil to grab a b4 layshaft or is it not needed to use the rest of the b4 parts for 48 pitch spurs?
