Ok,here's my test Dave, fitted with a Speed passion 3000kV brushless motor,I haven't finished setting it up properly yet,but on the wee test run I did outside just now,it's going to be quick. The ground is a little frosty just now,but I would say that it performs rather like a 10T brushed motor does in 10th scale. I like it.

Coooooor! I can remember fitting a 12t double in a Mini Stox years ago - & that was pretty insane!

Here's my [old skool] Mardave image contribution:)

My Marauder (needs cleaning)
http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp?t=&id=img28990_05082009141517_1.jpg

My Cobra with Losi XX gearbox ;)
http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp?t=&id=img28990_10062009171644_1.jpg

Stockmaster parts I brought when I was a collage for a project to make a chassis... unfortunately the chassis although drawn never got made. (parts are now sold)

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserimage.asp?t=&id=img28990_11082009174645_1.jpg

My 2nd ever R/C car was a Meteor & I have fond memories of both racing it at the local club & bashing it in the street, that car was responsible for about six of my mates all buying them too... so we must have single-handedly kept Mardave in business for a little while:thumbsup:

The Cobra pictured above was my 4th ever r/c car & replaced a TopCat-turned Cougar... it was a car I did well with and I suppose took me to another level of ability.

I'm a great fan of the Mardave brand & its great to see it still going & churning out the simple, strong but effective cars that they have always been renowned for.

Kudos to Oople for giving us a Mardave section :)

hi sorry for the delay....

rears are tru-d to 48mm at the mo .. i take them down to 46 an then bin them .. i round the inner and outer edge of the tyre with sand paper too... and depending on grip add super glue to outer tyre wall

One of mine from a recent meeting - probably frowned upon by the Mardave purists for being used for Banger Racing - but reasonably modified under the shell to make it handle better and hit harder

Tyres - Jap Meds and 46's - no fancy additives. G2 motor and 4300 cells. Modified top deck and chassis bracing. As long as it's quick enough to run someone in before they do it to me I'm happy.

Well modified from the standard I'm afraid...

Traxxas shocks on the back,Option House Golds on the front, period Parma Cyclone Stock 27 turn motor,
period Futaba Attack R radio gear,HiTech SP1500 ESC,modified rear suspension mount,strut brace,
fully ballraced gear box, home made LWB chassis, home made undertray.

The body and wing is an Associated RC10B3 job nabbed from E-Bay for a fiver due to the fact that
Meteor LWB shells are nigh on unobtainable.

Bear in mind though, this is how it looked two years ago.....

Well, here it is again after it's last re-build.
It now sits on a Cobra chassis and has a complete Cobra front end on it.

more of a Cobeor than a Meteor now though.

I'd like to change the wheels(some CML/JC Racing 5 spokes) and I need to get my mitts on 3mm L/H
and 3mm R/H die nuts to make my own turnbuckles for it.
I spied a sheet of aluminium at work just before we broke up for the
holidays,so I reckon next up will be a set of ally suspension mounts ;)

Hi all here are some of my daves

http://i26.servimg.com/u/f26/14/66/54/56/v12_ni10.jpg

This is my weekly racer at DDMCR in brushless class.

http://i26.servimg.com/u/f26/14/66/54/56/v12_mi10.jpg

This is my mini but with shortened alloy chassis and also mardave brushless (but had g2 silvercan fitted here) with rear suspension as abit of fun but now is taking up room :(

http://i26.servimg.com/u/f26/14/66/54/56/aston_11.jpg

This is my original mardave v10 with only the anodised blue chassis added runs a 27 stock brushed with 2s and can still worry alot of modern tc cars and is great fun and think these cars would make awesome Gt B-spec cars.

My new shell!

using B&Q blue mask tape (lovely to work with), and left over black & white paint!

wanted a fun design that wasnt too complex, and here it is.

overspray as the mask wasnt all stuck, but hey, not like it will stay looking new for long :)

And also now the poor Pug 206cc is now retired, after a hard 9 months..

They are a great shell and there is a company that does a proper scale 10th shell of a 6r4 also.

Hi,

Here's some pictures of my not-quite-finished Meteor.

I was/am going to put this Cobra shell on another Meteor I'm building, but I think it's going to stay like this for a while seeing as I've recently found myself looking at a P45 - I want to keep this one as original/period as I can seeing as the other one is based on parts from Migger's Mighty Meteor (thanks Miggers) and is going to be as modded as possible while still keeping it a Meteor and British, or at least hand-made.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j36/sirjez/Orange%20Meteor/DSC_0062.jpghttp://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j36/sirjez/Orange%20Meteor/DSC_0061.jpghttp://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j36/sirjez/Orange%20Meteor/DSC_0060.jpghttp://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j36/sirjez/Orange%20Meteor/DSC_0059.jpg

BTW: Does anyone have any info on making a rear damper mount from GRP or whatever - I read the article in RRC Jun 1990 but there are no dimensions or measurements provided. If anyone has a template, measurements or any other info then I would be extremely grateful.

Hi Paul,

purchased water slide decal paper from Crafty paper compnay online.
Opened up a word document and trawled the internet for logos. Edited some of the logos in "paint" and pasted onto word doc. The paper type is laserable so then just printed on an Epson laserjet printer.

You can resize the images in Word. Anyone can do it, although it does take some time and effort though. Also once on the car, you have to coat with laquer to protect them.

With all that power on tap you might want to add some weight, on my 1s lipo car I have a brass weight strip under the lipo, so that the car weighs almost the same as when I had nimhs in the car and also that is where the standard car set up with the nimhs has the weight distributed in the car, without the weight the car was too twitchy and I could not get the power down out of the corners!

Here is my Dave;

I have just started at Maritime along with Mark, Will and Stephen and had my first meeting on Tuesday night, came 2nd in the 'A' so not too bad....

I have to thank Lewis @ Team Xtreme for the car and set up tips as well as Will and Brett again for set up advice and the loan of some key parts ie. strapping tap and glue!!.. I can't wait to the next meeting. the more the merrier I say so come along on Tuesday night 13th Dec at Chatham for more quality racing fun!! Little plug there for the club..

I am running the same as Mark Headling with the 20T Hpi motor and 2cell lipos as well as a really nice old MRT ESC (thanks to rebel rc (Scott) for that, and Mr James 'the Master' Clifford for the welding!) it sure does go quick!!

We had read the Maritime rules so ran what we thought was ok but they have recently changed to allow brushless however I'm sticking with this brushed set up as it was meant to be a sideline in racing and I don't want to spend a fortune, saying that I have ordered some more shells, wheels and tyres so slowly becoming expensive but this is mainly due to me wanting more car shells, lol

If there is any young lad out there who would like this body totally free of charge pm me and i will give it to the most deserving young man

As stated in another thread, there are alternatives. One free one that looks quite good and is completely free is FreeCAD, which is similar to Solidworks as it is also a parametric 3d modeller. Like all programs of that nature it will have a learning curve but once accustomed you should be able to do most of the stuff you can do in solidworks.

Surely the work involved in surfacing the body would be disproportionate to its benefit. It would then have to be rendered in 3DS max or similar to preview paint jobs etc

i know this is a tangent to the thread which is mardaves, but you can render in Solidworks or FreeCAD and you can use image maps in both, so if you have 2d image of your paint you can apply. I use 3ds max and its great but not really needed if just mocking up shells and paint schemes. If you want to talk more about it theres a thread talking about 3d programs.

A couple of lads at our club run a 10.5 in their V12. Mad fast but hot, you can't gear down low enough for a motor of that KV. Their car has problems with power-on understeer because the front wheels pull off the ground. The only reason their car isn't all over the place is because they are excellent drivers, only using the motor as they have transplanted it from a touring car.

2 cell in a Mardave is very fast and gets hot, you'd be best finding some single cells or Nimh packs. With the Nimh you don't have to worry about Lipo cut offs and the weight helps the handling.

LongRat
09-05-2012, 06:04 PM
I would disagree with that, it will only get hot if a quick motor is used. I honestly think the best setup would be a lower KV motor on 2S. Got a 17.5 coming for mine to test out, I think this will work very well.
Going 1S is going to cost.

Thought I'd post a pic of my Mardave. I've made it to run to GT12 spec but using an alloy chassis. I can run 1s 13.5 or 2s 21.5 but must admit my preferred is 2s at the moment. I've shown a pic of my battery holder for 2s that fits inside my 1s holder. Cost me £1.50 from ebay and a bit of time with a dremmel. There is 80 grams of weight under the battery holder. Whole car weighs in at 990g.

I've fitted an xray foam bumper to the front as well to better protect the shell.

Handles brilliantly and is such good fun to drive.

This might sound a daft question but do you plug the esc or servo into the booster?
Reason I'm asking is cos I want to run 1s in my dave but my esc is 2s and have never had any dealings with 1s or what can or cant be done.
Would this overcome the problem?

SlowOne
19-11-2012, 09:33 PM
Neither. You plug the booster into the receiver. Depending on the speedo you switch it on or leave it off. With LRP and Nosram speedos DO NOT switch the speedo on. Leaving the speedo switch off is the safe option.

Wire the booster to the cell, usually by soldering the wires to the speedo where the cell connections come in. Plug the booster into the receiver in any spare socket. If your receiver has a special 'bind' connection, do not plug it in there. 'Batt' or channel 3 will do.

Once it is all wired and plugged in, switch on the Tx and switch on the booster. It should all come to life and work normally. If it doesn't, flick the speedo switch on and off quickly and see if you get any LEDs up. If you do, then switch on the speedo.

The usual errors are that you don't wire it up correctly, and that's dangerous as that will probably release the smoke capsules in one or all of the electrics! Be very sure you have wired it all up right before switching on.

If it's an LRP or Nosram speedo, wire in the booster, switch it on and it will all come to life. Tape over the speedo switch so you are never tempted to switch it on, even in a hurry! Maybe others can give you the switching regime for other makes.

It's all quite easy really, just take care and you'll be running 1S in no time. HTH :)

thanks for the info good job i didnt just get one and try it then!!
Looking at Off-roaderMatt's setup, it looks like the booster is plugged into the receiver or is this a different type?
At the moment i'm running 2 daves with 2s lipo, 2 ezrun's-a 35a and a 60a sensorless esc with 13t motors(throttle turned down to 50%) but am hoping to use the esc with 1s and 13.5t(our club is quite relaxed on the rules!!)
A plug in type would be nice but what do you recommend?!
oh and will post some pictures later!
thanks

these are the daves of me and my lad.
the pink calibra is his VRX with diff and the black(and sometimes purple calibra) is my ce with diff
currently both running 2s shorty lipo, ezrun 35a/60a sensorless esc and 13t motors(taken from our mini's) with the throttle turned down to 50% which makes them the same as a 1s 13.5t

looking to go to 1s 13.5 with the same esc if possible(booster) or iof not then try 2s 21.5t. also the esc can run 0deg timing so would this be the same as "blinky mode"?

Two good ones available...

http://www.actionmodelcentre.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TQC%2DTQBOOSTER
http://www.rcdynamics.co.uk/Products.html

The RC Dynamics one is well proven and bullet proof. A post in the Wanted ads on here might get you one someone no longer needs.

The alternative for just a few pounds more is the Core RC 1S speedo (http://www.racing-cars.com/pp/Manufacturer/Core_RC/CR173.html). For your extra money you get something that does an excellent job, has no need for a booster and is ideal for 13.5 1S. If you are running a 13.5, then you can dispense with the fan as well. It is BRCA legal. If you will need to invest in the motor and cell as well, check out their package deal for all three on the same website. HTH :)

I doubt that booster will handle a decent high speed servo, with only up to 1.5A output current. Add on a PT as well and I can't see it being bulletproof with any servo. I would seriously reconsider 2S. There's no area where it doesn't outperform 1 cell. Including price.

Hopefully here is a picture of mine, painted by Adam U.

Adam and I are currently running Contact 50 / 35 straight out of the packet (47mm Fr and 50mm Rr IIRC)

I go with 46 front and 48 rear (standard 2mm split). I have found that the smaller rear helps prevent chunking on the contacts.

When i used contacts with a 50 - 51 mm dia they were prone to chunk / come unstuck from the rim. I now true straight down to 48 and don't seem to have any problems.

The Starlet shell looks great, and I like your steering links.
