Hi,
I am saving my pennies for a new/thicker front shock tower for my B44 (so I have a spare just in case as well).
Whats the best and easiest way of sealing the edges of the carbon? I have heard that some super glue, and a cotton bud is best, but how do you go about applying it?
Cheers
Mark

Atsushi Hara's guide to building the HB Cyclone many years ago showed him rubbing CA activator spray (sprayed onto kitchen roll) over all the edges, then starting from the top squeeze drops of CA down the edge so that it then feeds down (and seals on contact with the pre-sealed edges).
Chaz Godwin used to use a fat black sharpie to colour the edges black first which looked good.

I just put CA glue on to a cotton bud and rub along the edges, but be very careful of the fumes, i lost sight for 10-15 secs last week doing my towers. LOL

There's a good guide on the CRC website:

The very best way is to buy some of the carbon fibre epoxy resin and mix a little and use that ,cause its stronger and shinier plus takes about (varies) 24 hours to cure to gives you plenty of time to do it nicely and it doesnt need to be flatted of buffed at all as it self levels like gloss paint and is really shiny
hope this helps:)

This is what I do, it takes a while but is worth it!
1. Sand the edges using 800 grit wet and dry keeping the paper wet using soapy water until the sharp edges have gone.
2. Go round all the edges using a black permanent marker and leave to dry for a few minutes.
3. Unscrew the top of a bottle of medium tyre glue (I use pro-line) and dip in a cotton wool bud. Leave it for a few minutes while the glue reacts and starts smoking. I think it's easier to do the next stage using a 'hard' bud rather than a fresh soft one.
4. Start spreading the glue round the chassis edge using the hard wool bud. We are going to do two coats so just a fine spread will do. It may look either really shiny and smooth now or a bit lumpy, either way it doesnt matter.
5. Leave to dry overnight.
6. Do the second coat of glue round the edges.
7. Leave to dry overnight again.
8. Smooth out any lumps with 800 grit W&D, if there are no lumps go straight to using 1500 grit W&D using soapy water to smooth out the edges.
9. T-Cut is your friend! Polish the edges using loads of T-Cut until you are happy.

WOW at the above, talk about over-complicating a simple job of sealing an edge.

:o
It will be scuffed up'd in weeks.. why bother with the long procedure..
Sand edges.. clean off dust.. couple light coats CA-Race the damn thing!
Sand edge so it is smooth.
put some super glue on a cotton bud (soak it), leave it to dry (away from your eye's Jamie), once hard....
Pour some glue on a plastic bag.
Dip in cotton bud.
spread over edge.
Done this for ages now and always leaves a satisfactory finish.

Go to Boots.
Buy lush coloured nail polish.
Use nail polish on edge of chassis.
Leave to dry.
Cover in one coat of CA.
Admire how f'king luch your chassis looks whilst avoiding abuse from Griff :D
Go to Boots, or in Chris's case, his overnight bag... :D

It also acts as a great quick drying thread lock :D
