Hello, Newbie intro. Mad Rat

Not sure if this is the right forum room but I thought I just post a couple of pics of my Rat. Got it for Xmas from the missus and has taken roughly 2 days to build and I must say it was a bit of a pig to complete. But all in all a satisfying experience and the Rat does look good. Now, I have read that Ansmann kits have not been very well received with a lot of negative comments, particulary the nature of the plastic and its strength equivalent that to Cadburys milk chocolate. Cant run it just yet though as there was an alien part in the kit (steering pin with only 1 groove at 1 end). I have e mailed Modelsport and hopefully they will send the correct part. By the way, their customer service has been excellent so far and delivery took 24 hrs.

The only upgrade I have is a set of ball bearings

I have also got an electric motor (pic below) which has been in storage for 10 years or so http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif . Its obviously of better quality than the stock motor I got, but does anyone know the spec?. The ESC i currently have is a Mtronics Auto sport tuned 20. So I would like to know if I can run this motor without frying the ESC. I might as well change it as its brand new. What ESC can you recommend (going brushed at the Mo) as I have read that esc with reverse are banned for racing at clubs

Battery I have is a 3300mah 7.2v.

You may notice that the transmitter is from the jurrassic period ( I think its nearly 20 year old) together witht the receiver and servos. They still all work perfectly:o .

I am based near Southampton, and I noticed there is a track near Titchfield, so I hope to pop down there and seek advice and see what its all about.

I wouldnt say I am complete noob but it has been 15years + since I done R/C and would like to get back into it again.

Im not far far from noobie my self so can't help with the build quality as I havent run mine more that to test it on the road and now Im snowed in.

There is a local club come and test day on the 3rd so Ill try it out then.

The motor im not sure about

Esc, there are lots to choose from, some can run both brushed and brushless so might be worth looking into those if you change to brushless later on.

Most of the escs actually have the option to have reverse or not so that way you can bash them and then change the setting when you want to try out racing

James well it's basically a budget version of the race buggy so it's weight over strength. But the current kits are just as strong as the Associated Losi or Kyosho buggies. If you haven't had a buggy in 15+ years. Well it'll be stronger than whatever you did have then. You'll want some bearings in it and some good tyres to make going around the local track happen with good speed :)

Firstly welcome to the ansmann area,any questions feel free to ask everyone on here will always help you out the best they can.

I think the gold rush was a 17 double or around that wind,and as for your transmitter the futaba 3EGX i loved mine back in the day and they still look great.

Dont worry about the strength of ansmann cars now,like nice frog says there on par with any other make and again ballrace the car is always a must,spares are very cheap and no shortage of shops to get them from,and you can upgrade the car as you go again feel free to ask if you need advise were all here to help

I've found the current week spot are the rear hubs so I bought the Alloy ones and have not had an issue since. I'm still actually running with the old T'plate too and it's been fine so far 'touch wood'

I hope you'll be very happy with your Rat...expect something to break though, no car is indestructible and to be honest fixing and improving them is part of the fun :)

i ve been in the racing game for a bout 22years and i ve tryed a lot of cars and i dont think the madrat was/is that bad qualitly dont forget its around a third of the price of the rest of rc cars out there so they ve saved money somewhere but hey even on the more expensive cars the same bits break thats just racing
im just waiting the snow to disapear then i can give the mid motor version a blast
regarding the gold rush motor if its been skimmed and got new brushes on it then yeah it will be faster but i think the one in the kit is a 20t anyway so not much faster
speedo wise if your going brushed have a look around for a lrp quantum 2/nosram dominator (same speedo just different colour)
there was a few of these for sale a little back and people where asking only 20 quid and you ll never go back they where the ones to use when we where all running brushed any way
although saying that there are loads of brushed esc out there all as good as the other but go 2nd hand as you ll save loads and you ll prob find if your planning on racing you ll be upgrading to brushless so there no point on buying a new brushed system:thumbsup:
