Mardave help

Hi all

Thought I'd start a thread to do with general help/advice for the mardaves, mainly because I have a little problem at the mo.

Looking at the attached photo's, do my front axles look right, or is there something missing?

Been having some issues with my steering, insomuch that I'm constantly having to muck around with the trim to get the car to drive straight, have changed the servo over so know it's not that.

Noticed too touch there is abit more movement in both the front wheels than over the rear wheels, so was wondering if there was something missing from the front, bearings etc.

The front wheels are going onto what you see, all that's not in shot is the nut.

AFAIK,that's right.

If you look on Mardave's website,they have now started to
introduce bearinged front wheels for the 1/12th carpet racers.

I know the old Meteor buggy's axles are like that,i.e,there's no bearings
either in the hubs or front wheels,you lubricate them with a spot of silicone oil
(well,I do on mine).

Hi Mat,
Is that servo saver the right way round, it looks odd to me,are you sure it works with that washer on there aswell,might be your problem

On the front wishbone, put a few washers to lift the front of the wishbone up by around 2 or 3mm. This will give some castor to front wheels, improving stability.

Yes,the servo saver is on back to front. You could also do with puting a couple of washers under the front of the wishbones to impart a few degrees of caster to the front wheels too,this also help with the re-centering of your steering.

Personally I tend to drive my cars with parallel track rather than toe-in or out,as I find that it handles a little more predictably,and you don't need to keep adjusting your trim.

Hi, take the king pins out and check there not bent as that can cause alot of steering issues,also check that the turnbuckles are a nice fit and not stiff.

also those front springs look a bit suspect
are they too short?
might just be the photo
also try a washer/shim on inside of wheel as the wheels tend to bind on the wishbone if flush

Oh, when you say back to front, do you mean the turnbuckles should be connected the other way round, or that the actual servo saver is attached incorrectly to the servo itself?

Have ordered a few parts for my mardave including a new countersunk chassis and a new set of MARDAVE V6BR Front Axle and Steering Arms ballraced, so should address some of the potential probs :thumbsup: once they get here will rebuild the front end of car.

In terms of washers for the front, guessing it's going to be ok to just get some standard ones from good ol B and Q.

The springs on the front do appear ok'ish :thumbsup:

yes, the servo saver is on the servo the wrong way round,were the washer is should be a spline that fits on the servo spline,then turn the ballstuds around 180
the brace is not essential

Take the servo saver off and turn it 180 deg then fix turnbuckles to flat front.

I dont use a front brace tried it and found it did nothing.
Mabe its just me.

The brace that mounts on top of the arms does'nt do alot really as daves pretty stiff anyway, the kingpin brace from kamtec does help if you crash alot as it supports the kingpins better.

Well, the problem doesn't appear to be the servo saver, tried turning it round, alas it didn't fit that way round, so whilst it looks the wrong way round, is it possible that it's a different type of servo saver?

Anyhow, new chassis and other bits and bobs came today, so will do a rebuild tomorrow nite and see if that helps - got the washers for the front arms too.

If the one you got is the three piece type,Try a Kimbrough Servo Saver,i had the same one as you and it wouldnt self centre fitted the Kimbrough one and the problem was solved.

Hi all

Sorry me again, have a few more queries :confused:

Well, got the Manic/Mardave Mini Grid Heavy Duty Bumper (V15) for my v12 and it didn't fit, as the holes in the vrx counterunk chassis didn't match up, now I can't work out if I've bought the wrong bumper tho - as this one does show up in the v12 parts list, however the obvious mardave "mini" is in the title and am sure i've seen the bumper on some shots in the show us your dave section - if so, do I just need to drill out some new holes in the chassis?

Also got the motor plate o rings (V8DW) as couldn't see any on the car already - do these go between the motor plate and where it screws into the motor mounts?

yes you willhave to drill some additional holes to mount bumper and the o rings go around the rear pin and are squashed between the plate and its little holder they are suppose to cause a bit of friction damping to the rear
