problem help!

hi there,

i am having a problem with my cat sx.

yesterday day i bought a reedy 5000mah 40c+ from my local model shop. it fits but with millimetres's to spare. i am having a problem getting the plus bullet connector into the socket.

we are confused on what to do. we did think about getting the dremel on the hole and making it oval but would this weaken the top deck?

has anyone had any kind of problem like this and how did they over come this?

hi there,

it nearly goes in but it needs a bit off the hole. im worried about if i take some off it might weaken the top deck.

has anyone got some pics of how they solved theirs?

Well you don't have std lipo strap and that's what doesn't let you push battery more in so you can plug it in.

An easy solution might be to solder the bullet at a right-angle to the speedo wire, plug it in before sliding the battery under, clip it all in place then finally plug in the negative when you're ready to go.

no i don't have the std battery strap but this one has a side bit which pushes the battery into the car and the battery won't go no further because it hits on the motor clamp, you can see in one of the pictures.

he is a picture of the custom battery strap with my old battery fitted, the plus connector fitted fine.

we did think of that but it would be a job getting it under the belt. it would work if you could buy shorter 4mm bullet connectors but i don't think anyone sells shorter 4mm connectors.

i think the only thing i can do is dremel a little off the hole in the top deck.

but will it weaken it?

Using a smaller spur and therefore smaller pinion to move the motor further back whilst maintaining your overall ratio, may give you the clearance you require.

it might work but schumacher have not designed the battery location very well. you should not have to alter your gearing just to get the battery to fit. seems like the cat sx has a tight tolerance with electrics.

what about the newer sxII top deck, am i right in saying it has a wider hole in the top deck? i looked on their website and it looked wide but the picture is sometimes not true.

Perhaps the battery manufacturers have not designed their batteries very well if one fits fine and another doesn't....

Using different internal gears (I mean std 33/23 ones with different combination) will help you using same final ratio just with different pinion and that should help you move motor rearwards. Anyway I don't use have issues with battery.

The SX2 top deck does have a wider hole for this exact reason, not all cells have the connecters in the same place. With SP/Similar cells, the connector would be directly below the hole.

i have got the dremel to the hole and i have made it a bit wider. i can get the plug in but i have to lift the battery up and at an angle to get the plug in. i will take a picture.

i have taken some pictures of the attacked top deck. it is alot better but i think it needs more off but looking at the pics do you think i could take more off or is it getting abit thin?

would a top deck off a SX2 be better, it has an oval hole.
