Decided to rake my old Booooooomerang out for Jnr Jnr to use... he's only 5 and is feeling a bit left out with myself and big brother racing.
I've tried to get my LRP charger to charge the 6 cells sticks 7.2v.
I have changed the programme to Nimh but its says 9.4 volts during initial charging when I know the battery is flat.
I'm very puzzled by this and didnt want to blow the battery up.
Does anybody use this charger themselves to charge 7.2v 6 cells?

hi there
dont worry about voltage thats about normal if the cells are older or been idle for a while the voltage can be higher . initially, as the cells "fill up" the voltage wiil rise to a peak then fall off from a max then cut off
feel free to pm if the reply doesn't make much sense

Yes and no!!!.
Voltage seems to stay between 9.4 and 8.9 volts - oddity!.
So I drained the battery completely down via direct motor and recharged, only put 700 nimh in a 3500 nimh 7.2v battery.
I've tried it with all three. They last about 2 minutes in the car so are either fubard or not charging.

hi neil
does the battery get warm at end of charge ? if youre only getting 700 mah in i suspect not and they're false peaking
do you have a "cycle" function on your charger if so cycle a few times (if the batterries have not been used for a while they may be just a bit lazy
if voltage is less than 7.2 v you may have a dead cell
if all 3 packs are playing up it may be the charger at fault can you try another ?

No warmth at all. I think its saying its charged when its not. I've cycled it once, perhaps I'll cycle them a few times..... shame Lipo's cant fit in!

You can get lots of sizes of Lipo. If it's only a Boomerang, you'd get away with one of the 16th/18th scale sized ones. I run a 12th truggy with a 19t brushed setup. Goes awesome with the LiPo and lasts ages.
