Hi,

Anyone know if you cells in a 'cheaper' stick pack are soldered together or just held together with the two plastic end plates and shrink wrap?
I know that there must be a link between the bottom two cells (3-4), I'm talking about the four connections between cells 1-2-3 and 4-5-6.

I'm tempted to take mine apart and build a saddle pack but it could be a costly mistake if it's soldered as I won't be able to de-solder it....

Cheers

Generally they are spot welded with thin tabs that are bent back on themselves.

Normally it is quite a straightforward job to just pull the tabs off the cells, tidy up any rough edges, and re-assemble as a saddle pack.

Like he said; you can just rip the tabs off with a pair of pliers. Usually they come off completely, but it doesn't matter if you solder over the leftovers. They are thinner than a fingernail.

lol @ "Thinner than a fingernail" haha.

As said above, they are typically always spot-welded. Easy enough to remove, sometimes you get little spikes around the spotweld, where the tabs have been pulled away.

Right you are!

Easy when you know how...

All came apart really easy, little spikes left over were easy to file and actually gave the solder something to key in to too....

Thanks for your help...
