G, if I can give you one, I mean a screw, do you want to see about sourcing these in Alloy?

In Alloy they will be fine, as there is no force going through them, they'll just hold the bottom cover in - I'll have my X-5 with me Saturday night to show you, but I guess you'll have a damn good idea of what I mean anyway.

We can have a look on saturday night Chris, the only problem is the possible rounding out of the allen key hex with them bing so small. Wouldn't have been so bad if they were cap heads.

Cant you get the 5/16th's or whatever they are ones? The ones that you use on a B4 squat plate, but with a smaller thread?

You could get stainless steel ones these would offer you good strength and not round out also look the muts!!

Be carefully with stainless, there are lots of different grades, and the cheap stuff (that's easy to work with to make things) is actually quite soft and will round out quite easily.

Been there, done that, got some M3 dome heads and countersunk some years ago, and they rounded out much easier than the high tensile steel ones, and were also heavier :(

Personally i ont see the point in getting blue ones the blue just gets scratched.

The last two posts are right on. Stainless makes rotten screws, no matter where you use them. No weight adbantage and usually softer. Whatever bling there is isn't nearly so important as those two probs.

And I beg to disagree with Chris, perhaps for the first time in recorded history! In theory I think Chris is right -- there should be very little stress on those screws, which is one reason why they're so small. But when there is stress, perhaps landing a triple right on a bump where the bump hits the cover... Also, the effects of dragging on the ground will tend to "screw up" the heads on alu much more easily than steel.

So we use and reccommend steel here.

Try a well stocked Losi dealer -- these are the same as the bottom cover of a xxx-4, and I believe these is a Losi part number for them. Writing from LAX so no time look up the number.
