I was curious as to what you will achieve by running the smaller diameter spurs on the TRF501X. The track I run on is roughly 70ftX120ft. About a 90ft straight, but there is a huge quad that when you come out of a bowl you have to line up and take the bowl kind of high, compared to other drivers in a Losi XXX-4(with a Novak 7.5). Who can blip it a few feet before the first jump and clear it. I am running a 5.5 20t pinion 96T spur. Will the 87T spur give me more torque? If I go to the 87T spur, should I bump up a few teeth on the pinion? Thanks in advance.

Here is a nice gear ratio chart that Jimmy made or had made... http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/review501x/501xgearchart.pdf
Had to leave for a second, sorry. Anyway, by leaving your 20T pinion alone and replacing your 96T spur with the AE 87T spur, you will lose torque but gain top speed. Along with playing with gearing on your car, you have to consider traction too. If you decide to adjust your gear ratio, make sure you will have traction. What I mean is, if you wanted to do the reverse of what you want (going from 87T to 96T spur), you want to make sure you have good traction or you may have wheel spin from having so much added torque. Loosening your slipper will aid in wheel spin also.

The main reason I first installed the spur is because you can buy it! I was at a race and stripped the kit one. It gives you more room to mesh the pinion because its thicker - so if you end up with a short shaft motor (even same brushless motors can have vastly different shaft lengths) you can get a decent mesh.
Most of the team drivers run the 87t spur - for their own reasons perhaps.
