well after looking on the EFRA site for sometrhing else i noticed a new ruling that states all batterys must be easily disconnected in event of any problems so no more soldering on direct!

see the official item http://www.efra.se/news/agm2007/2007_Safety_proposal_regarding_batteries.pdf

I always thought it was quite strange that soldering directly was allowed due to the possible need to dissconnect them quickly.

I don't think this ruling was passed. I believe they ran out of time before it could be submitted.

can the brca implement the same rule on the grounds of safety etc even though the agm has already gone or will they have to wait until next yr's agm and put it to the vote?

Hopefully I'll know later as I've pm'd Jim Spencer asking the same about 10 mins back

Is the following in place for BRCA events yet or is it coming?

Not yet, only brought up at the EFRA meeting on Sunday, but given that there are some major problems with cells currently, I would watch this space.

a new ruling that states all batterys must be easily disconnected in event of any problems so no more soldering on direct!

quote below is from from EFRA link http://www.efra.se/news/agm2007/2007_Minutes_Main_meeting.pdf

RULE 5.3.13
THIS RULE IS NEW
In the interest of safety any batterypack carried on a modelcar must be able to be disconnected quickly in an emergancy.

Note: Direct soldering of batterypacks is not acceptable.

This rule will be affective from January 1st 2008

It is strongly recommended that the federations make this rule affective a.s.a.p.

Proposed by ORION
Seconded by: BRCA
The proposal:
Passed Unanimously

Does this just mean you need a connector of some sort on it? I wasn't aware people were soldering directly from battery to speedo, at first i was trying to figure out how you got wires onto the ends of batteries without soldering them :eh?:

Yes this one did get through the main agm at EFRA on the grounds of safety. The BRCA haven't done anything with it yet (which is fair as it's only 4/5 days since EFRA AGM) however, i know they are defenetly giving it some serious thought.
