OK Guys, as you probably know, i've ordered myself a 10.5t 4500kV brushless combo for my Mad rat.

I've already disposed of the bushings, and have ballraced all the wheels. Also waiting on a B4 rpm wide front bumper. I plan on upgrading the remainder of the buggy with Carbon fibre/Aluminium as and when things break.

My question though, is; Will my transmission be upto handling this brushless setup, or do I need to change anything before even thinking about installing this? My Mad rat is the stock brushed version for your information. Don't really want to chew up the gears, and would like to place an order for some gears that'll be upto it should the stock parts be unsuitable.

Cheers,

Damian

Well one thing to do is to ballrace the transmission.. that will help a great deal.

Once you got all your new kit installed I'd recommend programming the esc down to 40% or something so you can run everything in.

What size are the diff balls or are they available as an Ansmann upgrade? Thanks.

remember that if you upgreade everything that you can to alu then other things will/might break that otherwise wouldn't. Having alu is great but with plastic you get a little bend softness when you crash.

soane- the diff balls are size 3/32 if you go to rc bearings.co.uk the ceramic ones are 90p each you will need 12, or the metal ones are 20p each

damselfly- go to rcbearings.co.uk and you can get a full set of bearings for the madrat for £8.50 and you have the choice of rubber sealed or metal sealed, i would suggest using the rubber ones

Thanks for the replies. I ordered the full bearing set from RCbearings a couple of weeks ago, but only fitted the wheel bearings. Not looking forward to doing the transmission bearings, but I guess it needs to be done.
Again Guys, many thanks for your valued input.

Ok, it took me a couple of hours, but i've changed all bearings to bushings apart from on the steering part.
Those ball bearings inside the diff where quite fiddly though. Piece of cake though, and really enjoyed it.

Marky, the B4 wide bumper comes from RPM,and it only needs some minor modification to fit. You need to remove the location dimples on the mounting part of the bumper, because the Rat doesn't have compatible locating holes, then you need to carefully mod the holes to match up with the Rat's.

The part is RPM #80042. I got mine off eBay from a member called Dinball in Hong Kong. Quick delivery too.

I learned the hard way. Ansmann do an aluminium idler gear. It's the middle one in the gearbox. The plastic one stripped on mine. Also the slipper clutch would not slip despite the nut being almost wound of the shaft. This was solved by giving the spring a good squeeze in a vice. Finally make sure its the clutch slipping and not the diff as it will wear out the balls.
