Hi Guys,

What do you guys at the Caldicot club think of the Team Xtreme X11
(not the X10 or other older cars please)

Thanks,
Rob

I've always wanted one but never had the guts to get one. :)

They seem to have got their act together and sorted out much of the reliability issues with them now though. Have a word with Dave Belsten as he used to run one I think as a team driver so he'd have the best input..

If you are in 2 minds about what car to get just try and blag as many goes on peoples cars at club until you find one that suits your driving..

Give me a shout on friday and you can have a few laps with the 502.. :)

I have no first hand experience of them, but have always loved the ingenuity of them. I've come close a few times to getting one, even if it was just for the engineering of the suspension...and to hang it on the wall somewhere, if not not race it.

The few I've seen look good on track, the reputation as said has been of poor durability, but I've heard better and better things on that front recently.

The final straw for me for not getting was watching Ellis Stafford drive one at the Nats last year! It looked awesomely quick, and totally planted, but then his cars normally do I suppose...but the deal breaker for me was how when it flips over...it really just stays over!!!

Not that it goes over easily due to the low CofG, but with conventional suspension you've got features that help the car roll right over, with that layout...not a hope...flat as a pancake!!! Once on your roof your staying there til a Marshall can get to you...and you know what they can be like at times ;-)

If I was a better driver with better knowledge of setup to help deal with grip roll, handling issues, etc, I would give it go...but I still have too many roll over moments at the mo!!!

Still have that little urge for something a bit different at times though ;)

He said different Balders, not a copy of his B44! :p

Much like the others, I've always liked the engineering concept of the Pred, but again I'd need to be a better driver and have more setup experience before I would want to run one.

That's that then, I'm buying one

I'll just have a good look at my bank account and take the plunge in a few weeks time

Thanks.

Rob.

Rob, is there any reasons behind why you've discounted the other cars on offer?

Lazer ZX5 FS - There will be lots of support for this car this season
Durango 410 - pretty good spares backup and again lots of help and advice on here for it
Cat SX3 - ok not for everyone but spares backup will be excellent
Yokomo BMax - don't really know much about these really...
Annsman 4wd - cheap car for what it is..

I'm not trying to change your mind just interested in your thinking that's all matey. :)

And Pete, the 502 is more like a BJ4 than a 44, its rear end is firmly attached to the chassis instead of on a bendy plastic plate on the back.. So less of your cheek! ;)

Rob, was there anything about the handling you disliked about the B44/44.1 to make you want to switch?

Sorry Balders

(so it's still a copy then! :p )

The B44.1 was FANTASTIC, and with the 'tweeks' and weight I was told to do, the car was on rails, (if I could have only got my act together!)

The Pred, It's a 'heart thing'.

To get the most out of any hobby I have, I've got to 'want' the model I'm playing with. The purchase of the B44 2 years ago and the latest B44.1 were made with a 'calculator' and facts. My heart was not in the car, only my head.

I am quite liking the idea of the new SXIII because I used to race a Pro Cat and Cat 2000 back in the late 80's and very early 90's. But Cat's, are they really all that yet? How long will it be before the SX4 comes out, 2 months, or maybe 4 after the release of the 'new SX3 ????? and they're now made in China like my fridge!

The Pred is different, it's always been there, it's always been British, but always the underdog for one reason or another. I remember being thrashed by them in the early 90's, until they snapped 'another' wish bone !!!! The Yokomo were another 'must have' car in the 90's, but I never did. Buying one now, I don't know, a bit plastic, a bit expensive, a bit rare.

Come to think of it, just like the Pred

But hey, as I said, it's a heart thing, and not at all rational !

And you've just got to LOVE the suspension !!

But I've just looked at my bank balance, and nothing will be bought this month, or even next :(

Rob :)

I understand that as I'm sure mr tamiya lover does too!
I loved the idea of a Tamiya that was competitive as it reminded me of the Top Force I used to have all those years ago and I started racing with a Tamiya.
But, I loved my Associated back in the day, so I've switched back to AE (heart and head were in shock agreement for once!) even if there was no performance advantage over my Tamiya.
