Hiro Seiko - because its the best value on the market for cost effective racing

or

Losi - because it is colour coded, used on LOTS of set up sheets by top drivers, a large range from 10wt to 100wt, and the bottles are conveniently numbered on top for easy indentifacation in the pit box too

Hey, is the latest Losi oil still colour coded?

Darren Boyle
16-02-2011, 01:41 PM
Yes mate, except that all of the "half weights" are clear as is 30wt, but all others are coloured still

simoncrabb

Ohh, that'll be it, half weights are clear.

AE Factory Team - because its used on B4 & B44 set-ups.

Thinking of changing to Losi as its coloured though.

Which agreed the halfs are used more and more nowadays but the rest are still OK

Blue - 20wt
Green - 25wt
Clear - 30wt (and all half weights too)
Orange - 35wt
Purple - 40wt
and so on........

I had a problem with them, I pressed too hard and the cap shot out, and everywhere shock oil.
But I still use the associateds

Looked at at Petit, but who sells it in the UK?

The Silicone is likely similar quaility for all but the accuracy of the viscosity is the problem.

Only one on your poll has some good accurate viscosity ratings!!!!

No guessing which i use and is the best:thumbsup:

Associated for now..but it doesn't fit in my new pit box, so might use Losi in the future.

AE but for the worst reason, it's what I have virtually always used.

Never had any reason to change, although the new bottles are a step backwards IMHO.

LOSI, its simple like me. But i don't change colour according to my weight.

May move to Durango when i get round to buying a full range!

I bought a job lot of 10wt & 20wt oil from a manufacturer of MTB shocks.
I mixed it together to make 30wt.
It seems OK, maybe a little thinner than normal 30wt, but it was cheap and I have 7 litres of it.

:eh?:

The great thing about that oil is that you can get almost any weight you want just from the two basic oils.

If you start with the 20wt, but add an equal amount of 20wt - you get 40wt. Add the 10wt again and you've got 50wt!

And like you said, it is awesome value and will last a lifetime. :woot::(

Losi oils for me, due to me trusting the weight being right for my understanding, as AE oil seems softer marginally. Losi bottle size is ideal - compared to Schumacher for example, and I don't understand the conversion to CST from WT.

I would have thought that this would make 15wt.

(10+20)/2=15. No idea if oils follow maths

Well I had a bottle of 40wt, divided it into two bottles of 20wt.

I needed some 30wt, but only had 40wt, so just 3/4 filled the shock.

Thats hilarious :)

You wont have anywhere near 30wt. butttt!!!!!tttt:thumbsup: it does not matter unless you are looking for set up changes to improve handling.

I read this thread cause it makes me smile.

There is an independant report somewhere!! i thought was on buggysport but i cant find.

It compared all the oil manufacturers for quailty and accuracy of ratings.
One stood out as being best:thumbsup:. one on the poll was very good too.

Im sure someone will find and share !!!
Im not the right person to give un-biased advice.

but for bashers and begginers cheap oil is fine!! just be aware that for racers who want to change oil from from example 30 to 35 or even 40 to get harder shocks. The only way to be sure of actually getting this change is to have oil which is exactly what is says on the bottle!! Sadly most isnt!!

The worst thing to do is have oil of different makes!!!!

How many times have you guys been using a cheap brand of oil or 2 makes of oil made a shock oil change and did not get result you was expecting?? you spend ages thinking you built wrong trying to improve!!!!:woot:

Still cant believe Kyosho oil is not mentioned in the poll as well sell plenty of it!!!!

also some other good ones missing in the poll too.
