Any one tried it and found it made a positive effect on there driving style?

I sometimes find mostly under pressure i tend to get a wobbly throttle thumb when racing!

Yes i know it sounds strange , i have thought of changing to a Wheel set as this would eradicate the issue.

I am currently running the Ko Universe stick set What are the comaparable wheel alternatives ? I rather like the look of the Futaba 3pk ....any good?

I was pretty much struggling with a stick set,
so i borrowed a wheel set from a fellow racer with a wheel set for sale.
(try before you buy sort of thing)
Anyhow it was a complete revelation to me,
lopped two seconds of my lap times straight away.
See if you can borrow one to try before you shell out your hard earned cash.

the 3pk is a nice handset,the trouble i found was its heavy.i use the mars r steer wheel,

Both my daughters race Mardave bangers. The youngest uses a KO Esprit II same as me, but the eldest uses a KO wheel set and I dread using it to set the car up for her.

After 25 years of using sticks I jut can't change now......

I'd love to try a wheel myself but being left handed it's a very expensive option. Tried it right handed and also placing my left over the top but just didn't feel right.

I'd agree that you'd be better off trying it out first before buying. Just a shame there's no cheap left handed options for me to give it a proper try.

I have a 3pk and absolutely love it. It was a little heavy so i bought the 1450mah 3s turnigy lipo. This made a big difference to how it felt and i now forget i am holding it. It's still not the lightest but the weight is a non issue with this lipo in there.

I can drive wheel or stick. Not sure which i am faster with but like the others said it is mainly preference.

Try before you buy but i would recommend the 3pk.

One thing i did find was that going from a low end Tx to a high end Tx made me a quicker and smoother driver.

like the other guys have said i would try before you buy as if you dont like it you got to sell it and maybe loose abit of mula.

i found that i could use a wheel but i struggled with the brake as when i can to slow down id let off then if i needed to brake hard i always ended up squeezing the trigger?lol sold it now usind a futaba 3vc stick set which suites me fine.

I tried a wheel once, and couldn't get the car round the lap!!
Personal preference of course, but I would say definitely borrow one for a full club night or bashing session and see if you can get into it........I couldn't.......

Defo try it before buying one! This is a very personal matter!!!

Generally it seems to be easier for one using a pistol radio to convert to sticks. Not the other way around. But some drivers really improve when moving to pistol radio!

Myself I've been using sticks for 25 years. Bought a 4PK a year ago, and tried a lot to convert... but just can't get the same amount of control :cry:

The 4PK is not a marvel of engineering btw, disappointing finish. And that "master" button is a nightmare to use! Way more satisfied with the previous model (Futaba 3VCS with FASST)!

I much prefer wheels, it takes a bit of getting used to pushing away for the brakes but I find I'm much more precise with the steering as I've got a few fingers on the wheel rather than just a thumb. I originally went to the wheel years ago because I wanted to upgrade from 27mhz to 40 and the wheels were (and probably still are) a lot cheaper.

The 3pk is an excellent radio I had one for years, I've only just changed to the spektrum dx3r for something different.

See if you can borrow one before you actually buy failing that if you buy second hand you shouldn't lose much if anything if you find it's not for you.

The 3pk and dx3r are both reversable for left and right handers.

Oh! Forgot to mention one important thing!

I feel that if you want to use a stick radio, you'd drive much better when using both your thumb and index finger for both sticks!

For 15 years now I've been using a "harness" (made for RC aeroplane use), it's just great! You can relax your shoulders & arms, and you get very smooth movements!

Takes a little getting used to, but once used to it you'll never want to go back to holding the radio with your hands!

Im going to give wheel a go, Ive been racing stick since 1990 until when I sold everything last year. Now I have an EX-5UR.

I know I can drive wheel, but thats it - drive, around the middle of the track. I don't feel what the car is doing through it, or able to place it where I want at a heartbeat like I can with a stick... but im hoping this all comes with practice & patience.

Although, if it doesn't, ive sourced a Ko Esprit 2 as a backup ;)

Cheers for the replies guys , i am left hand but i never have found that an issue when using a wheel , ie left hand holding the rigger and right doing the wheel.

Im may try using my index finger for the throttle but it may be an issue.

Oh well watch this space.
