I was wondering if anyone had any info on the 501X gearbox covers
mentioned at the EUROs

I spoke to one of the guys involved in Japan, and I think the mould was just about to be made, so I guess it should be out any time now? the latest revision which I didn't show looks even better.

The part is made by Cédric Devillers, his nickname on oOple is "Deuv", you can PM him.
I don't think that the production is started though. I saw the proto, it's ace !

Wow, I forgot all about that front-facing rear cover. That will certainly help out... I have a habit after every race to use an X-Acto knife to flick out any dried dirt that gets between the pulley teeth to keep it clean.

Humm...
I'm confused...
Witch one acctually makes these parts?
Or are both Arnaud Ledun & Cédric Devillers involved in this project together ?

Sorry, it was not clear.
Arnaud and Cédric joined forces to create Optimized RC. Cédric actually designed the parts.

Less than 5 days until my outdoor season kicks off, and I fear for my open belts.

Is there any news on the gearbox covers yet Deuv?

Has anyone got any suggestions to make the pulleys more dirt proof in the mean time? I have the diff covers on, but its the pulley teeth themselves that need protecting.

Has anyone fashioned together a lexan based cover?

I guess the gear cover you are talking about and the ones being devolped are completly different.
The car does come with 1 for the front diff and a rear cover for the rear diff but the problem is from dirt balls getting into the rear diff gear from the front and top front of the rear diff where there is no cover.
Look at the first couple of post in this thread and you can see the proto type covers. They are very much needed on a new track or any track that has dirt balls the size of a pencil eraser. I tore up 2 diff gears in 3 days when our track was rebuilt and there was loose dirt not cleaned off yet. I didn't tear up a belt.
Thanks for the pic of your car.

Welshy40
27-04-2008, 10:55 AM
The gear covers are the kit version in the above piccy, the ones mentioned on this thread are longer so the inside gear box which is not covered will be, hence why the guys are developing it as the diffs get so dirty. I would recommend buying them when they are available as this should save you on doing a lot of diff rebuilds.

Just went to test out my new Brushless motor.
Nothing big just wanted to tryout different pinions and get it set up properley.
In less then 2minuts A little rock found it's way in to the rear diff.
Popped the Belt right off and broke the Diff pully.

I think everyone that runs a 501X needz one Of these Asap.
I can't Keep buyin' new diffs everytime I go off roadin' on a dirt track.

PLEASE MATE TRY TO GET THESE TO US SOON.

I love this car but if this is gonna keep happenin' then I might think of lettin' it go or keep it as a shef Qeen. Hummm...

In the mean time, while we wait for the diff covers, I have been using a home made lexan cover, that fixes to the screws holding the rear battery posts in, and goes up, round the transmission housing, and goes up through the top deck aswell. Nothing will be getting past it, as it only has small cut outs for the belt to run through, and my pulleys are nice and clean .

Ill post a picture later, but its easy to do with a bit of lexan from an old undertray or cutoff from a bodyshell.

Hello evrybody!

I receive this message this morning from the manufacturer:

"Dear Cedric,
I have learnt a lesson, by relying on a small tool maker and advancing them money to make this tooling. Any way today I have fresh samples and hope they will be acceptable. Just in case you still want major changes, it would be better to scrap the old tooling and make fresh tooling from a better tool room. In view of all the problems, I have decided to send approx 100 pieces of each as the tools have to be mounted on the machine and raw material cost is
not a big worry. Besides DHL cost is same upto 1 Kg with certain volume restrictions. Let me see what best I can do.
Hope your address remains same, please confirm as samples will be sent tomorrow to reach you by Monday next."

So, I hope to be able to provide the first delivery at the end of next week !

Best regards

I run the other car in spring and summer.
So dirt balls dont concern me on an indoor clay, where pink-taper slicks will work.

Well,

The finish looks not perfect, but the part fit perfectly the 501X !
If you want to wait a little bit more to have the updated or if you can't wait any-more I have around 50 set ready for shipping evrywhere in the World, excepted in Japan where Team Azarashi distrib this parts and in France where Select Models do the same !

About price, 19€ looks to be a fair price in front of the molding tool cost and the Polyamid renforced plastic material used for this one !

I'm waiting for your PM

Best Regards

Cedric

PS: Jimmy your free #1 set was ready for shipping, I'm just waiting for your adress !!!

On second thought these covers I may need. But I live in the USA, so maybe
you can ship your patent to tower hobbies so us Americans can buy some
also. A little extra protection shouldnt hurt my car. Heck it might even
keep my new front one-way clean also.

Why not order direct............

Why would someone go through all this process and then let someone else make all the money..... In some of your posts you come across as generally not having a clue!!!!!!

Where abouts are you Antnee? very unlucky there mate, I've only broken my durga once with a full speed head on into an immovable object. The wishbone broke and the hinge pin bent (just bent it back) but the rest was fine, no damage to the front pivot blocks. Looks like you just had a bad time of it as I've crashed plenty of times with no breaks since.

When do you expect the new badge with the better finish?

Will the price be the same?

Guys,

What can I say but FANTASTIC!!!!

The two parts fit the rear gearbox perfectly, and if anyone out there is moaning about the price then dont buy one, but I would advise you buying this as its value for money and will stop you rebuilding the diffs all the time.

I have to admit its probably the best thing I have bought for this car and what a design - perctly assembles, no fuss or bother and you can see what thought has gone into it - and how quick to design, test and sell. Cedric keep up the good work.

Are there any covers in the pipeline for the front gear box?

Hi Guy's

Thanks a lot for your comments !
I try to do my best for a great quality product !
About the next parts, the price was the same, just a best looking finish and my label on !
I don't think to design a front cover, no necessity !

I'm waiting for your international order !

Have a great day

Well here is mine already fitted, pity that your not doing a front one as dirt still gets in there. Lets hope you change your mind, as I will buy one set straight away.

If you made a front one you would have an instant sale to me as well. I havnt fitted both the covers yet as my 501 is currently in semi-rebuilt state. I tried the rear one and it fitted really snug.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow showing how well the fit is for anybody who isnt sure.
