What visible difference is there between these rotors? Ive never played with brushless before.

Centainly with regards Novak, the bonded (as with LRP) are literally wrapped in a fancy chord (like string). The sintered Novak one is nickel plated so it's a bright shiney colour.

Cool, thanks Dan. What do you run? Im guessing putting a sintered rotor in a originally bonded motor is fine?

I got told something about the bonded being moulded and the sintered being moulded under pressure?? something like that... I have bonded rotors in my LRP/Nosram motors - I have a sintered rotor but it's a bit too powerful so I've never raced with it.

Yea you can put a sinitered rotor in a bonded can such as an lrp one but i beleive it then makes it illegal. One of the disadvantages of bonded rotors are it can sorta wear out lol as the magnets can weaken and sometimes the string stuff thats on the rotor starts to come off and get in the rest of the motor.

as ash put mate not quite that easy ..
only the 4.5 & 3.5 are currently sintered to buy and there you cant put a sintered rotor in a 5.5 , 6.7 or 7.5 as there only available bonded..

Ah, fair enough, but non brca events are ok i take it?

Yeah, or just buy a Novak motor. You can run either in them, IMO a more reliable motor aswell;)

I shoulda stuck to brushed mate, much easier to understand :D

The Novak flat (as in not ribbed) cans came with both bonded and then later (briefly) sintered rotors. The rotors are interchangable (fit wise). All ribbed motors come with sintered rotors.
Putting a sintered rotor into a flat can is a grey area. Technically the motor is the same as the sintered one you could buy so to me there ethically is nothing wrong. Not sure that is correct to the letter of the law as it's written though.
In terms of what you want (Novak motors) the characteristics are different, as will your speedo and likely tranny settings different. So stick with one and work with it. For me that would always be sintered. They have a fraction more performance but the brakes are miles better, the speedo runs loads cooler, they are more reliable and less prone to short and long term fade. They are also more tollerant to gearing abuse, including delibertly overgearing if you want to.
My 5.5R was put in at the end of the last indoor finals and never (not strictly true) come out since.
In terms of the speedo setting, I run a lot less drag brake with the sintered and in 2wd have to turn the brakes down (I do this on the tranny) to about 80% as 100% is like throwing an anchor out the back.

Cool, thanks Dan, that helps clear up my mind a lot! I will be getting a 5.5 sintered anyway but for testing and setting it up a 6.5 with a sintered rotor that i begged off someone will do. :)

Are you running it with a GTB?

What about the "L" range of motors?
Could be ideal for Southwell with his heavy thumbs, especially for 2wd.
The L range of motors ie. 5.5L 6.5L etc. use a different winding pattern which as well as making the power delivery smoother they are also lighter in weight, more importantly than all that though they are Blue :D

I wouldn't say heavy Craig, more over ambitious :D
Smoother power delivery sounds better for me to be honist, my favourite motor of all time is a peak 10x6! :o:cool: Have you tried them out yet?

I've got one a 6.5L I run it nearly all the time. I describe the power delivery as less violent ;) However I do very occasionally run a 5.5L in the 2wd too because where as I'd never run the 5.5R as low down it would be a beast, the L winds up more smoothly but is really quick topping out.
5.5R all the way in 4wd though as you can put the power down. The L would save the belts in a xx4 though, perhaps? ;)

Dan .. please pop over to the brushless knowledgebase thread and post up your gearing info for the Novak R and L motors ....

are the Novak 5.5L and 6.5L motors in U.K shops yet??
i cant seem to find them, does anyone know where they are available?? or are they not??
thanks:D

Yes they are Bally has a 5.5L in MB models as we speak (Leeds). Well he did about an hour ago, says he's sold quite a few to buggy lads.
