Who's going to the Hot Bodies off-road championships? I saw the advert for them a while back and was reminded today about it - so put our names down. It's run alongside the HB junior touring car thing - but apparently with an alternate layout for the buggies with jumps etc.

9th december they are on at Don Valley - bit of info and entry form here: http://www.mirageracing.com/news/article/703

I'll be going with my little B4 ... ... similar surface to worksop i think? so should be a good'n not expecting quite as big a jumpage as worksop though...

Im up for a bit of that... Do we need to pre-book or just turn up? I can't decide whether to do 2wd or 4wd, I suppose 4wd.... its not had as many miles on it as my X-6 recently.

Im going. Its a rubber running floor surface. adam and Mr Christopher did some testing last week with some D4's and they found that there wasn't much difference between the schumache mini pins and mini spikes. grip looked good so i dnot think there shoud be too many issues with it.

I'm looking forward to it. should be a laugh if the track is layed out ok.

Adam also tested some GRP cones and said that these and mini spikes were better than mini pins. So most drivers will have 3 options.

Hi I should say we are booked in - but I was thinking of other people getting in to fill up any spaces left. The off road meeting is being run alongside the Junior touring car meeting - a good chance to show the kidZ what they are missing with their flat cars :p

Hi Lindsay,
If anyone starts to accept entries by email/PM, please can you include me. I have done mine just today by post, with cheque and SAE - and don't want to miss the boat because post is a day slower than PM/email..

I asked Ben Cosgrove at Mirage if he could advise about places / online reservations etc.. so we'll see hopefully - it would be good to fill up the meeting as if it's a success maybe Mirage will do some more in future?

Same here, i suppose it would be unfair lets say if there are 10 places left but entry is only by post and there is 14 envelopes waiting to be opened as they say.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Ps - i have now had confirmation that it would be me and Russ only as John cant make it now.

I'm told there ARE places available, so if you get your entry in this week you should be perfectly OK. If we get enough there then there might well be 60 odd touring cars on ebay mid december as all da kids demand buggies from Santa! :D

That, or we all get touring cars - but I can't really see that :)

will try get some more info about places / booking in on here soon

Hey Spence, it might not be ideal, but im guessing a postal order would be acceptable - it would translate the same as a cheque when they pay it in anyway.... post office give postal orders ;)

Make sure you've got some spare shock towers. that rubber surface can be pretty grippy when the car is upside down. lol :D

Anyone know what the 'jump' situation is? like what are they going to have?

Hey Tel,
I was secretly hoping for a mostly flat track - would be a fresh change to be able to race and drive the corners rather than lining up for the next landing...

I do usually prefer jumps, but recently my car has done more airmiles than landmiles... LOL.

telboy
05-12-2007, 12:37 AM
Well, through the BIWS the doors have been opening around 7am and practice starting around 8-8.30ish. so I would think around the same times.

Jimmy, can you take some of your oOple stickies please? I've some nice clean shells that need christening. :p

Do you have any of those nice chrome ones that adam has on his shells?

From what somebody said earlier in this thread yellow minis work better over yellow micro's but i'm taken both to be safe.

Would be nice to know if a model shop will be at the meet though?

telboy
05-12-2007, 03:46 PM
I would think that Newbold model will be there, as he usually has a monopoly on the Don Valley meetings. lol

I'm sure he will have stocked up on various tyres.:eh?:

I can no longer make it due to my dad having to work away next week in the north east so its s bit unfair to make him drive to sheffield and back on sunday thenfor him to drive up to the north east monday morning at silly hours of the morning. I was really looking forward to that to.

I thought Adam took TQ?

Somehow I managed to finish 4th in the A with my trusty RB5 (which is now for sale if anyone is interested):p

The track was a bit simple but the little carpetted bit onto the straight was slightly tricky to get right. Stil don't know why they didn't just set out a normal track and just take the jumps in and out for the buggies...might have been a bit more technical. but hey, its done now.

the 4wd A was good to watch, Tom deffo ad the legs on Skelding but didn't quite have the handling or the luck.

Camera's. yeah, I've had that problem before with them saying it causes interference. It never has though.

So that would be 1 set of gears to 0 belts last time we raced. Neither are bulletproof but both are reliable when setup correctly.

I have nothing against the S4 your absolutly ballisitic with yours im just against people like ben who say things such as he does against a car that was designed for nicads and slow motors and is still winning in a world of much younger cars. The only thing i dont like about the s4 is the price its sorta over the top IMO if it would have been cheap i may have got one instead of my xx4 who knows.

Hi Guys

I would like to thank every body who supported the event this past weekend.

I really enjoyed my first attempt at 2wd and will no doubt be back for more (glutton for punishment)

It was also nice meeting the names I read about and I will try and get to some more Off Road events in the future.

The race report is now posted on Mirage's website and can be found at http://www.mirageracing.com/news/article/789

Thanks to Jimmy for the photos

Nice reports there jimmy and ben.
The photo of the top 3 4wd turned out well jimmy, despite having only about 10 seconds to run onto the track, take the photo, then run off the track before the touring cars came round!!

Nice to see that it isn't just me that gets sligthly blurred shots in that place.;)

Had a great day on Sunday (despite setting off at daft o'clock in the morning), track was quite short which made the racing seem very frantic, but excellent to watch. Nice to meet Ben Cosgrove, Bondy & a few others (whose names escape me), great atmosphere & venue, well organised & had a really enjoyable day. Hope to do next year as well.
Most impressed with Tom Yardy trying to wheelie under the start/finish bridge & not quite getting it right :wtf:

Great pics & reports as always.
