Hi,

I've just put my order in for a Cougar.

I'm told that it is a good idea to have a sevo saver but there is very little room for one. Can anybody tell me where I can buy a good one that has a Savox/Futaba fitting to fit a Cougar?

Also does anybody have a REALLY scrappy body I can have for basically the the postage cost? I'm getting the car Tuesday and want to race it Friday. The new body will be in the painters, so I a need something on the chassis for Friday.

Many thanks
:)

tip: Don't use a servo saver as it slows down the steering, I have never run one with a Savox 1258 servo and never had any probs.

OK, thanks.

Is there any parts I should keep in my pit box or up-grades badly needed for the 2011 SV Pro?

You might want to use an alloy servo horn, the plastic ones can easily strip.

Ones that fit well are the Answer RC straight (non-clamping) horn, and the Losi horns. (Both in stock in all flavours at rcLazy.com).

Otherwise, the only thing I've broken regularly is the front top bulkhead.

Why did you sell the losi 22 i dont mind as i have a cougar just wondering

Only things i have done is is lost the little screws and washer that hold the front axles on,i have a atomic carbon front link plate, and a rw gear set but thats about it.
Washers to alter your links,a set of screws to hold the wheels on for replacement

Front hub carriers, these are a bit of a weak spot on the SV. (You can install B4 ones which are half the price and much stronger)

The Losi build quality is great and it really seems better in most areas than most other cars I've used. But I think the mid motor set-up is an after thought made just to keep the European market happy. In mid motor it is imposable to fit R/C neatly. In fact, the car dictates what gear you fit for the most part !!! And when you have finished, you will still have wires squashed in all over the place. You can't even fit a Tekin RS on the ESC mount they provide for ESC fitment, and the Tekin is a 'small' ESC !!!!!

TOTALLY STUPID !!

In rear motor, I'm sure it is all fine, but then it's a Yank car, made for the Yanks, so they have looked after their own, as normal !!

I raced Schumacher all the time 20 years ago, and it's nice to come back to a British car

Interesting, I was half considering a 22 as I have not always got on with my cougar...

Despite a few niggles, the Cougar is a very nice piece of engineering and from what I have been told the more fragile parts are being worked on, hence why I am keeping mine.

Do you have a part number for the Associated hub carrier that fits? Is it a direct replacment?

Thanks.

I have just rung Schumacher. They say the car has no weak points and are NOT working on any up-grades, but are working on a new 2WD car !!

There's one very big weakpoint on the Schumacher...

Most of the times it's the driver!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ive ran my cougar for a year now and tbh you don't really need alot of spares i would just say get the usual stuff you would buy like wishbones shock towers and the rest, but i would suggest buying some +5 degree front yokes these make a big improvement to how the car handles in the corners apart from that I think you would be set 2 go

Where is the best place to buy Cougar parts in the UK, for the best service?

Maybe somebody could give me a shopping list of parts I will need?

Thanks.

Its the standard B4 trailing hub carrier...

I simply replaced the std screw with a 4/40 screw straight through as I didnt want to have to modify parts if I did manage to break one.

As said before, I really like the cougar, but its not without its issues.

front wishbones
rear wishbones
+5 degree yokes
front and rear shock tower
front bulkhead
front hub carriers
rear hubs

and try Ross mods,JE spares or even off the schumacher website for your parts

What are it's issues exactly? I'm buying the 2011 SV Pro. If I can nail down what problems the car has, I may be able to work around them. But so far I keep hearing from people that car can be a problem with no real pointers as to what is a problem other than they snap.

The car is due tomorrow morning first thing. It will be racing on Friday night and I've got my painter all lined up

Thanks.

Rob.

OK, the issues I have had are:

Hub Carriers - I went through quite a few of these until I switched to the associated versions. Not sure if the schuey items are deliberately sacrificial to save the servo?

Front bulkhead - I had several of these go, some in fairly hard crashes (fair enough) some in very minor knocks. Just make sure the steering posts that hold the steering mech in are flush with the bottom of the bulkhead or it will stress it and break.

Gearbox layshaft - This destroyed itself after a couple of months, changed to the RW kit, no issues since. (Think the 2011 kit has had this corrected)

there isnt any issues with the car at all as the 2011 version has the parts added that where needed to be changed its just a case of getting spares just so u have it incase u break it really

Thanks for all that :)

So it seems I'm OK with 2011 kit as long as I don't drive it like a knob and hit it all the time :)

Just keep the simple things in my box, just in case.

Cool, thanks.

many cougar drivers on here have suggested the +8mm chassis upgrade makes the car much easier to drive so thats definitely something to consider.

The cougar SV pro comes with servo spacers which you can fit, but they aren't required. depends on the servo.
try it with and without and see which fit feels right

Yes, I have noticed I din't need the spacers to fit my Savox, it all seems very nice and smooth down there :) I also fitted a metal arm, so that's OK.

I'll look at the long chassis, see how it goes for me on Friday and over the coming weeks. We have a fantastic Cougar driver at our club, and I'm hoping he will help me out with the set-up. If he says it needs the long chassis for our club, then I'll buy one

Thanks.
