ive been looking on the tekin site at these R1 pro brushless speed controllers and motors... are they any good ?

not seen many running them but the size looks attractive. . . .

They aren't sensored and so I personally wouldn't go near one with somebody elses barge pole.... Just my opinion.

Can i ask what is wrong with a sensorless system? Unless you have seen one and used one then comments like that are a bit useless. Seeing as they have only been out to team drivers this last 2 weeks, its still rather new.

To answer the original question, i have one and they are very good. Not had any problem with them at all. You can run any motors with them, but the tekin motors are about the best.

sensorless is the way to go, the only brushless market that uses sensored it 1/10th.

Also, there are a few tekin drivers on here.

thanks for the replys there guys, id noticed on some of you lads sigs that you are tekin drivers which is good to know help is at hand if need be :D

ive had a look at the tekin site at some of there products system wise and they look quite good.. motor and speed controll prices work about round the same as the normal LRP/NOSRAM/NOVAK gear which i think isnt bad for what you are getting...

aswell not noticed any fans ? this can only be a good thing, when are these available to joe public ? of the R1 Pro series

they should be available very soon. Testing has gone well, and release to the general team drivers should show up anything within a week, that could of been missed.

Fairy snuff if you like sensorless. Horses for courses and all that.

As an engineer the idea of relying on passive feedback to determine rotor position and thus control the motor drive characteristics at the most critical time (light throttle and coming on and off the throttle) just seems wrong. I would always prefer the smoothness of the sensored systems at light throttle as it just feels more delicate and controllable.

Not sure if you have a cogging issue but there is always that risk too.

The reason I'm not running a brushless in my micro is based on the lack of a sensored system at present. Bought a Mamba system and once I got it set up it was still rubbish .... I was actually really glad when it packed up on the 4th run and went back to brushed!!!!

you have fair and valid points, but with sensorless, as long as your solder joints are fine, then there shouldn't be an issue. When you have to rely on a sensor also, there lies a failure route.

Can you run nosram/lrp or orion motors with one of these and will it need a fan in 1/10th offroad??
Cheers

yes it will, and no you dont

From experience of using micro brushless systems for best part of 2 years...the Mamba is shit.

Good old fashioned honest opinions right there :D

Possibly because 2wd on clay (for example) require the most accurate and consistant throttle control???

I really look forward to trying one of these, I hope they are good for Tekins sake as the people that run it are really nice people. If you get one Gary can I have a go please?

Dan, I could be persuaded to lend you one for a meeting.....

Steve,

Thanks for the offer, but it's not really on for me putting another manufacturers speedo in the car even if it is for research. I've no interest in changing, just interested to see what it's like as it's the first (in my mind) race inspired sensorless speedo. I'd also like to see how hot it gets after 5 minutes of race pace.

I just got back from a very wet meeting at Stotfold. It probably wasn't the best day to try the R1 Pro for the first time but i couldn't wait!

I ran an LRP 6.5 with a sintered rotor (i know its not BRCA legal but is the closest combination i have to the soon to be released Redline range).

Once i had got the setting how i wanted the car felt really good, loads of power and very smooth from throughout the throttle curve and on the brakes.

I ran 3 packs and had no problems with water. The other 3 cars (there weren't many people mad enough to stay) that were running all stopped :D (no lasting damage though i hope).

i really like the sounds of this.....

motor relyability must be up there with the speedo if they go that well surely ? :)

I haven't seen the motors yet, but from what i've heard they will be top quality:)

Fantastic, ive seen them run in the touring cars on the Tekin site and they seemed pretty rapid..

but that brushless system for an 8th scale looks out of this world ! :o

What money does the r1 pro come in at?

DCM

the cans will be machined billet and the rotors a higner compression on the rotor material which allows for really stupid rotor RPM without failure. They will be doing slotted and slotless too.

The RacePlace got them on their site.

Thanks DCM....

Yes,

The Raceplace are doing the R1 Pro's at a special price for 1st batch orders.

Please note: The ones on web site are down as the whole system, as the motors are not yet ready it will be for speedo only.

I have been informed that team drivers should be looking at having motors dispatched by the end of the week, it would of been sooner but the production rotors were sub standard from the supplier, so were sent back.

don't forget to ask about the hotwire adaptor to, to take full advantage of firmware updates and allow you to upload and download ESC setups.
