Gluing Tyres

Hello!

This is obviously quite a simple task for most people in the off-road scene, but I've got to glue up my first set of tyres this week.

I've glued foams up before, for mardaves and micro's, but I just used double sided tape, or evostick for this, giving me plenty of time for the glue to activate.

Has anyone got any tips? I've seen some tyre bands advertised in a magazine recently, but now I can only find some for 1/8th tyres.

Give the tyre bead and rim a wipe over with motor spray to ensure they are free of grease.
Fit the tyre to the rim, ensuring the bead is properly seated on the rim.
If using thin glue, use a rubber band to hold the tyre onto the rim (superglue works best if the joint is as tight as possible)
Apply glue to the bead and carefully rotate the tyre so it runs all the way round, capillary action will get the glue into the bead.
Allow to dry, then repeat on the other side.Hope that helps.

Alternatively, you can ignore point 5 and glue both sides of all your tyres and then stack them on your pit table to dry.:D

:)Having stuck my thumbs to tyres several times and got fed up with it I cheated and bought an RPM 1/10 off road tyre gluing jig.

1) Degrease tyre
2) Lightly key bead of rim with wet & dry then clean and degrease
3) Mount tyre on rim
4) Place in bottom half of jig, place top on jig, push down lightly to expose bead and apply 4-6 drops of superglue around bead. Release pressure on top half of jig tyre comes up and glue gets forced round entire circumference of rim.
5) Allow to dry and repeat on other side

Nice professional looking job without getting your fingers stuck!:)

A tyre gluing jig sounds like the best option. I've just done a quick google search, and I can't find one? Are they called something else?
