Which starter 1/8th buggy ?

been looking at a hong nor LX ultra one rtr OR hobao hyper 7 rtr.

This will be for next years racing (10th leccy Nationals are tooooooo far to travel) :D

If those are your two choices then I would go for the Hyper 7. Remember though that the engine is too big for BRCA National rules on buggy racing. No problems with club racing. If you wanted to go Truggy racing then I have a brand new HB Lightning Stadium Pro RTR .26 rotostart. Everything is all ready to go apart from fuel and a glow plug. PM me if interested.

the hyper 7 has a .21
ultra one has a .28

With 1/8th Rallycross buggies you should be running a .21 engine. I have rebuilt an LX-1 for a friend and I do not like the design at all. the Hyper 7 even though very old is much better. Just be careful of the rear shock tower mounts on the rear gear box as these snap of if you have a hard landing upside down.

If you are going to have a bsh at racing it would be good if you could stretch the budget a little,

there are loads of factors at play - i.e. if you are just doing club stuff or BRCA events.

Have a good look at the Hyper 8 BRCA Ed. RTR which comes with a race legal .21, Efra stamped pipe, better servos etc as well as coming with a starter box.

Both the H7 and LX1 have theie respective ups and downs, but would make suitable starter race tools but as with any class once the bug bites you will spend more and its that age old addage that to buy cheap the first time is to buy twice.

The market has never been as competitie as it has been now for 1/8th. I remember when the H7 launnched prob 7 - 8 years ago and was £450 with an engine for a lesser spec car than the TQ evolution of the RTR. This was classed as cheap as before that to get a decent spec you were looking £400 - £500 for a Kyosho 7.5 or Mugen + engine! You have never had it so good - even so if you can spend a little more than £200 on the RTR you will get a far better car for racing.

Good servos are the one thing that always gets underestimated. 1/8th is very hard on standard or mid spec servos.

has anyone tried out the vrx-2 from hobbysport, it is a copy of the hyper 7 but at 160 pounds with a go 25 engine. not bad at all! The shocks are a buit cheap, but everything is adjustable (even has droop srews) and as i said for 160 quid it is pretty amazing

But doesn't it need to be .21 to conform to rules? Im not 100% as i haven't done nitro for years.

actually for any beginner into rc they should build kits, rtr should be banned! (although regretably that is how most manufactures make there money...)

LRP box gave me good service for 2 years of racing.Good price (then, not sure how much now). Just slap a good set of batterys in it 4200 would be good

I use the Mugen starter box. It's the best you can get.

I myself have been looking into buying a 1/8th scale nitro car. And from what i have seen the HoBao Hyper 8 RTR BRCA edition seems to be the best one to get, as even though you are not planning on going to any nationals or stuff like that, you would still be able to race without having to changew anything. Which for a beginner like me would be exellent.:thumbsup:
