Weird Problems with my TRF501x

Hi,

Had a weird problem hit me in the final at Don Valley today, as I flicked the steering on the grid I thought it suddenly looked like I had less steering lock, and then all through the final I was struggling to get any turn in, I mean all day I had been half spinning and suddenly I was struggling around the outside of the track, especially on right handers.

Does anyone have any clue what would cause this!!?? For info:

1. I run a one way in the front, but in the final it almost felt like there was a diff in there


2. I run a lot of drag brake, is there anyway my ESC could have reset and taken the brake away? I run a sphere comp?

3. Could it be the servo failing? I don;t run a servo saver, but my last servo failed suddenly rather than losing lock?

4. My rear shock tower was loose, but it came loose in every single race so I assume it is not that!?

Hard to say without seeing it? do you run anything in the one-way cups to stop them coming out? they come with the orange foam but I use lighter foam. If you don't have anything in there then that could cause steering issues possibly?

if the cup has come out slightly, it could also slip on the bearing or even break it - which could give the feeling you didn't have full one-way action going on?

Haven't actually changed the belt or even had the front driveshafts out in about 6months so can't remember if the foam is in there :wtf:!!

Maybe I should just rebuild the thing and see, the rear belt has been slipping for the past 4 meetings I've run with it anyway!

Do servo's ever lose strength before hey give out?

if you suddenly lost lock, not sure, but I don't think that the 501X has a built in servo saver, so won't be that. You would have to rule out a fouling ball stud coming loose, one-way cup coming out.

Best thing is to disconnect the track rods at the wheel end and check for full steering range, if you don't get it, check your transmitter for full steering, then remove the steering link from the servo and check it throws fully. If it does there is a restriction in the steering rack, if it is still short, tranny adjustment or bust servo.

As much as I sometimes don't like to, you have to dive into problems. Yesterday I received the Azarashi top decks in the mail, so I decided to replace the rear top deck right away. I remembered seeing (what I thought was) a bent left front CV/drive shaft after racing last Sunday. Looking last night, one of the CV pins was hanging out a good ways! :o Sure enough, the tiny grub screw was loose and the front caster block was actually preventing the pin from coming out... it's nice that is round in there isn't it? :rolleyes: So, the wobbly shaft was probably due to the loose CV connection, even though I did not put a battery in it and spin the drivetrain to check (I can do that when I race next on Thrusday). Finally, I already ordered CV shafts but will end up keeping them as spares now.

Point being, don't be a dummy like me and order parts ya do not need! :mad:

matty had the same problem turned out he had caught the rates on the transmitter
