ESC or motor is overheating?... and what temperature?

That gearing should not overheat a brushless motor. I have the same drivetrain (18T center pulleys & 37T F&R pulleys) and gearing with an Orion Vortex 6.5. My temps after a 5 minute race stay about 130-140*F (someone else can convert that to Celcuis for me :p)

both, dont no temp, but put it this way, you cant touch the motor and the heatsink/fan is melting off the speedo.

Have you cut the intake and exhaust holes out in the bodyshell over the motor and the other side hump as mentioned else where in the 501X threads, I also cut large vent holes in the lower rear of the shell under the wing and in front of the rear diff; and indoors I dont use the undertray.
Hope this helps

I have my Orion 5.5 geared at 18/96 at the club with the18/37 pulleys with no problems. It's hot but you can keep your fingures on both the speedo and motor
