View Full Version : Is tweak an issue in offroad?

When building my old carbon chassised touring cars there was a huge emphasis on building them with no tweak at all in the chassis during each stage, and then after each run.

At a high level or racing does the same apply in 10th offroad? or do you just sort tweek out with the shocks etc rather than the chassis?

Thanks

I would imagine that you don't really want tweak for off-road racing, but it will not be as noticeable on a touring car, since the car is mainly bouncing off bumps and jumps. The best drivers will feel that their is something wrong with the car, but it can be fixed with a carbon plate chassis, by undoing the chassis screws, and letting the chassis 'untwist'...

And since off racers are not nearly so anal and don't blame everything on miniscule things wrong with their cars ;)

I thought if touring car racers didnt have a very good run they would just stick a faster motor in. Probably a 2.5 brushless motor geared on a 35:p

What is tweek? Is it the same as flex?

Tweak is when the car is 'twsted' in areas and is fixed by putting the screws in a particular order from what i remember. To be honest, its all a bunch of BS as far as i'm concerned :)

Wouldnt worry about it in offroad, build it to last, then go race it!

The reason tweek is a problem on flat pan cars especialy is the very limited suspension travel, most of all the lack of any droop to speak of. With touring car it is still there but in my experience no where near as much as some people claim (i.e. would be much better off de-tweeking their drivng style than their car).

As everybody has already said it's not much of an issue in off-road ...... that's not to say you can screw the car together any old how .... still worth getting the shock lengths and internal limiting right.

Josh.
Im sorry to say this..but yes...you probably will become an idiot once you get sucked into TC :D

I'll try my hardest not to :D i dont think i will take it/the people seriously enough, i just want something to run on nights when we dont run off road and it might make me concentrate a bit more on my driving/learn a bit more about setups, might be a good learning curve for me.

Tweak does make a huge difference in TC's, but its not all about chassis twist. It's used to describe the differences in the shocks and droop etc aswell. Just depends who your talking to.

tweak is massive in on-road, it can mean the differance between being able to slow town or the car spinning the same way time after time.

in off-road, it does not matter in the slightest.

people (very fast people) have been known to run their shocks in the different holes in the wishbones and shock towers left and right which would cause un-equal droop and still set fast times or win finals etc...
