40 Weight front isnt terrible, but the rear should always be thinner than the front. This is just a rule of thumb as it all depends on pistons.
I run 37.5wt front and 30wt rear with 1.3 and 1.2mm pistons. Also bear in mind each oil manufacturer grades oil wt differently.

I run my car 30 front, 25 rear as I like my car soft. It also reduces the chances of grip roll. I'm running Ghea 1.4F and 1.3R piston and Losi oil.

The above setup is my starting setup I hit all tracks with for the first practice session. Usually I dont change a thing, but last weekend I decided to up the oil to 45F and 35R to see what it would do. The result was more grip, but also grip roll for teh first time ever and generally a less forgiving car to drive, so I went back again.
Go low on oil, perhaps cut a row of pins/spikes off both the front and rear tires and try from there. I think it'll help you.
