Hi
I have a strange non-RC related battery question, but i think some of the cell experts on here will be best placed to help!

I have some cordless phones in the house that have 700mah Ni-cad AA cells in them. They are a few years old now and don't hold a lot of charge, the phone cuts out after 10 mins etc.

Unfortunately Ni-cads are no longer around, so i just wondered if i can put in some normal Ni-MH AA cells like a transmitter. I know RC chargers have different settings for Ni-cad and NiMH so wondered if it would work or not?

Any advice greatly received!! (they other half is moaning as her chat time is limited!!)

My mothers has done this recently, her original manual said Nimh were OK though only refers to 1000mah cells (available at the time) but we've put some 2300's and so far no issues.

Hey Jim,
If you can get a Uniross fast charger from Currys, and with it comes 4 Nimh AA's. If your phone needs 4 then id get 8, and while 1 set of 4 are charged and left in the charger, the other 4 can be in the phone. I would just put some tape over the terminals so the phone dock doesn't charge it.

The best NIMH AA's I have used are the Green Energisers. They may not be the highest MAH but they seem to last the longest I have tried. The other alternative is the new Blue Energisers which are Lipo AA's. :o

It would charge them, but there is a likelyhood of them being overcharged - I am not sure... but if ever I am not sure I would do the option which is less risky.

Hold on Jim, you have missed the oportunity to limit phone call lengths to 10 minutes

Edit: can she talk any quicker?

cheers guys.
i figured with the low amps they charge at compareed to our RC batteries that it probably wouldn't be an issue, but thought it best to check.

The other alternative is the new Blue Energisers which are Lipo AA's.

If you mean the Blue and silver Energizer L91 then these are not rechargeable and they are NOT Lithium ion Polymer.. they are Lithium Primary.
