mad monkey is okay for the price but needs :- bearings , shocks , turnbuckles and shell as it comes with pre painted one !
x2c has everything you need and a great car
mine is up for grabs in for sale section 4 race meetings old and has some spares ( if intrested )
only reason for sale is sponsorship

Depends if your friend is running stick or saddles as well!
I run a Monkey and have upgraded to losi shocks, bearings and turnbuckles and it works out slightly cheaper than the X2C  and IMO the losi shocks feel sooo much better to Ansmann threaded shocks that I had fitted to my X-Pro (for me anyway)

X2C for sure. As he's racing this will give him all the required suspention and upgrades to be competative (subject to driving skills). The other advantage is this equipment is used by the team drivers so it's easier to offer assistance/advice if needed.

are the plastics used in the mad monkey different to those in the x2c? as per mad rat vs x2 pro?

also what wheels fit these cars?only ansmann or do losi or associated fit?
Ive got associated wheels all around on mine, quite a easy conversion. I only did it because I have a shed load of B4 wheels.

im in the same position.what is involved?
change the front steering arms for B4 items, stub axles, nut and bearings, rear, just buy the proline axles that Team C/Ansmann sell.

Thats what i did to the front, you have to drill the steering arms to fit the ansmann hinge pins. The rears i used B44 axles with the standard mad monkey drive shafts and B44 rear hubs and bearing again drill and slighty dremelled to fit. They is probably a cheaper option but i had all these parts in spares.
