Best (2nd hand) Servo for 1/10th Offroad

After a bit of help/ advice.

As the title says I'm after a decent servo for use in a 1/10th offroad buggy. I am just re-restarting racing again and there are so many different numbers and types of servos nowdays that it is a bit daunting.

I am going to pick something up second hand, but what I haven't decided yet. It also needs to meet my mid range budget but if I can get a top notch one on the cheap then all the better.

I now have coming a 40Mhz tx/rx and will be running Lipos. No idea if this has any bearing on servo type but thought I would mention it just in case.

I got a 2nd hand KO 2123 from someone on here, been very good, though I did have to replace a plastic gear with an upgraded metal one from Demon Products (about £6)

These are incredibly quick and although getting old, were the servo of choice for many 'pro's'

You can pick up new UK-sourced servos for about £40. Either the Savox low-profile 1251MG, or for full-size, the Schumacher imported GM 80x series (http://www.racing-cars.com/sp/category/Manufacturer/subcategory/GM_Racing/templateid/12/searchbox7/Electronics.html); note the speed given for those is over a 40 degree arc, not the industry standard 60 degrees, so multiply speed by 1.5 for a comparable number i.e. the 0.04sec model is actually 0.06sec.

What sort of budget are you on? As Colmo said, you can get a Savox new for just over £40 and they are very popular these days, as you get speed, torque and reliability

Trying to stick in the 20 to 30 max range. Noticed that these Savox seem good along with the trusty KOs..
I am guessing speed before torque for 1/10th? (But not to low powered). Once I have an idea of what is good or not I will put a wanted Ad on the trade board. Just didn't want to end up with something that was no good. Servos seem a lot less glamorous than say ESCs or motors so info is harder to come by,

For a 4wd buggy you need torque ratings of at least 7kg (most competition servos are closer to 10kg), speed is almost a secondary consideration so long as it's relatively quick (i.e. less than around 0.12s/60deg @6V)

I use Futaba servos, both are around the 9kg mark and approx 0.1s if that helps mate.

The PowerHD servos are good value too, I think they do a reasonably quick and torquey unit in the £40 is range new IIRC.

I would say for the money your looking to spend get a KO off an auction site, as long as it's quick with a high tourqe rate and metal gears you'll be ok. Try and get a digital servo if you can.

Should you be able to spend a bit more get a Savox. Although there was someone selling some savox's for £25 each in the for sale section the other day.

its ok buying second hand if you dont mind it braking 6months down the line and replacing it(rare when it happens but if it does you gota buy another) for the sake of saving £10-£15 in the long run id opt for a savox sc-1251mg for the price with a warranty great servo for money.

It's been a while since I bought anything from JE Spares LOL Last thing I bought was a pack of 20 brushes (I think!!). You after my buisness again :woot:

That Savox 1251MG has a lot of supporters and doesn't seem too expensive for what it is. At present it's sitting on my shopping list of possibles.
