Hey all.. My 1st post here. I went searching for a vintage RC after I had a chance to mess around with my friends JrX2 pro. I found a Vintage Tamiya Frog at my local hobby shop and snagged it for a good price. It needs some work, but thats ok, I love working on projects like this. Anyway, I wanted some advice on a new motor and speed controller. I wanted to go with something modern since parts are readily available and easier to work on. Its also missing a few things like the battery door lock, I cant seem to find one, does anyone have a DIY for this? Ive searched a lot this weekend. I already ordered a new bash guard, body and decals. I Cant wait to really get into this and start cleaning and polishing it up! Anyway, thanks for the help heres what she looks like!

This kit is available as a re release so some parts should be easy enough to get. Not sure what was changed from the original. Try modelsport.co.uk

I just sold my 25 year old Frog on eBay a month or two ago. Sorry mate.

However, IanH is right, the re-release is very similar to the original. The spaceframe chassis door should be easy enough to get (try eTamiya.co.uk).
The one problem I had was getting wheels and tyres. Think I have some Sand Scorcher tyres floating around somewhere which might fit.

Watch the suspension (especially the front) when you start bashing and using it. The single shock front gets alot of gunk in there and can wear pretty quick. From the shiny look of yours it looks like it hasnt been run so just keep it clean and filled with oil and replace the O-rings regularly.

Ive got 540 sized motors if that is any help to you?
P.S. these use the same bumpers as the Super Hornet if that helps track one down. :)

Yea, this car has never been run. Teh shop started putting it together back in the day and then lost interest I guess.I just put in a new steering servo and my friend is giving me a sport tuned 540 motor and ESC so that will be bolted in in the next few days. I dont plan on running this all that much. Ive got a team associated B4 and a Traxxas Rustler that I can play around with. I just like projects...

The battery door catch is on the B parts sprue, part number 0004422. Available from Time Tunnel (http://www.goldstarstockists.net/live/catalog/tamiya-10004422-0004422-parts-for-58354-the-frog-p-14570.html?currency=GBP&language=en), Fusion Hobbies (http://www.fusionhobbies.com/Tamiya-B-Parts-for-58354-p/ta0004422.htm) or can be found on ebay.

If you planning on getting some use out of it you are advised to replace the hex driveshafts with the pin drives or the universals from the Frog rerelease. Tamiya even make hex drive converters, part number 53913, that lets you fit modern 12mm hex drive wheels on the rear.

You can download the manual for the rerelease here
