Has anyone got a decent Mardave Meteor shell sitting about.
I have spoken to Kamtec about reproduction shells and they will do it if they have use of an original shell.
Can anyone help???

If you want an SWB shell,Mardave still do them in ABS but not lexan.
They don't however do the LWB shell, the mould went missing yonks ago
apparently as did the ones for the wheels and most of the red bits.
The Cobra shell can easily be adapted to fit also.
I have one or two contacts that might well have a SWB shell you might
be able to use but I'm not sure about an LWB.

I have a tidy shell. But to be fair, I don't know if it's long or short wheelbase... Any ideas on dimensions for both derivatives?

That's a short wheel base shell.

What does a LWB shell look like? I have an old Meteor that I'm restoring for a cousin that came with a lexan shell. It doesn't look like that one above - it's got side pods that stick out to accommodate the transverse stick pack. If that's LWB then I dread to think how short the SWB is! :woot:
The bad news is that it's quite poorly cut, with jagged edges everywhere, and it has been painted on the outside...
Not sure if it could be used to make a mould from, but I'm willing to let Keith try if I get a good deal on some replacements!

This is a LWB shell for the meteor. It looks very similar to the cobra shell, but notice the bulges around the steering. A lot of people just used cobra shells for their meteors, but this was the correct one for the long wheel base gold chassis.

This picture is from an aricle about getting the meteor to be a competative buggy with all the period hop ups.

Looks like mine is a cross between the two. It has the bulge on the right side just like your pic, a bulge lower down on the opposite side, and the side pods slope off sharply at an angle at the front and there's no kick-up at the back of them. Looking at it more closely I'd be very surprised if a decent mould could be made from it - there's a small hole in the top of the windscreen where it looks like something melted through!

Im not sure which Meteor I have !!!
Any pointers on dimensions on the LWB and SWB, It would be good if we can get new shells made via Kamtec to keep the meteors running:woot:

Mine is a LWB (don't have the shell unfortunately) chassis is about 39cm long if that helps.

It's still possible that yours is a version of the LWB shell. There were at least 2 versions of the LWB chassis that i know of. One wide, one narrow. If i remember correctly the wide one was disconinued due to it making the front too wide and failing the BRCA rules at the time.
When i get a chance this afternoon i'll post up the whole article for you guys to read :)

Ok, after studying those photos I think mine is a SWB - here's a photo of the shell (Don't laugh, IT'S NOT MINE... I don't even know what that crap is he's scribbled on the front... ).
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t305/quackingplums/MeteorshellMedium.jpg
The chassis has the wide, square front and the wheelbase is only about 260mm. From tip of bumper to back of motor guard it might just stretch to 390mm, but that doesn't sound long enough to be LWB?

Just measured my bog standard Meteor. Wheelbase 250mm Bumper to motor guard 365mm.
Your shell is different too, perhaps yours is one of the earlier LWB as the later ones were lexan, earlier were ABS like yours. This is from memory though, don't quote me ;)

Oh nice ;) i've got a few "artisticly painted" shells lying around here like that.
I never throw them out though, always seems a waste. Besides i'm a hoarder

Thanks CAT3K for posting up that RRC article.... really brings back memories
Talking of which do you think you could take a scan of the page with the shocktower drawing on it & perhaps e'mail it to me? I recently brought a new-built Meteor, along with various spares which included the LWB chassis (with long white arms) & some ballraced front wheels. I'd like to build it up like the one in the article with all the period mods.... so if somebody is getting LWB lexan shells re-produced I would deff be up for one too
I'm also missing that ballraced 'red' spur gear... so if anyone has one of these laying around please PM me ;)

I have no scanner here, only camera :( Is it the exact dimentions you're looking for?

Yes, i'd like to make my own one following Greg's pattern
At least I know the issue of RRC - perhaps I can put a wanted request out for anyone willing to sell this particular magazine - it would be nice to have the original printed item aswell.

Worth digging this thread up again now it seems a little busier now in the 'Vintage' section.... just wondered if there was any further developments on the quest for a Lexan LWB shell that could be re-pro'd?
P.S; I finally got that ball-race ready spur gear!
