Does anyone out there remember the Craven Model Car Club? It was a small club that raced 1/8th and 1/12th sock cars and 1/10 off road at Galas and various shows in the 80's. Then the Club got a bit larger and raced at various indoor places in and around north/west yorkshire. We were racing Tamiya Rough Riders, Sand Schorchers, Hotshots, Fast Attack Vehicles and all sorts of stuff. Would be great to hear from anyone who raced with the club.

You know I do!
Still got a Kyosho Optima chain drive, Cat XLS, Gold tub RC10 and most of the parts to build the very rare Concept Car which was a Cat/RC10 4WD Hybrid!
Where are Andrew Garnett, Michael Garnett, Carol Garnett, David Peel etc now?

Your right Jim as I recall, Dave Peels Hotshot was pink!! Thats a blast from the past. There were the Peel's, Garnet's, Bob Spivey, Clive Corser (massive hair) Hudson Brothers (now my step brothers) Dick Batty, Paul Carrington who raced at TAP who I think went on to be quite a successful driver, a lad called Rob Bennison with a Hirobo, the 1 without a body, just a roll cage and countless others. I raced a Kyosho Scorpion there then went on to an Optima but my 1st race was at Crossroads Primary School with a 380 Holiday Buggy! the other lad was Bob Spivey with a Rough Rider. He won!!! That was in the day when 8th stock cars were far more popular than 1/10th off road. Eh, them were the days, jumpers for goal post etc etc. Damien, how many links did you take out of the Optima chain before you had to get a new 1, think I got to 6 and the amount of times I had the Scorpion chassis rails in the vice to straighten them out. Would be great fun to have a vintage race class for a laugh. I saw Dave Peel senior at an MG car run last year, he's still going strong, say he has loads of old stuff still in his loft. Peel jnr is married kids etc but I dont know about the Garnets. Who was that little kid about 7 or 8 years old that used to kick our arses down at Ball Grove?

Little Gareth with his dad who had a weird Isuzu sports car, used to knock around with Stephen Lawson and his little brother Martin.
Do you remember Russel Starkie and his mate Dougie Hetherington from Burnley? Turns out Dougie lives 100 yards from me, I bumped into him the other day walking my dog. He was telling me he still has his PB Mini Mustang complete with 2 speed gear box!!
What about Adam Longrigg remember him? He used to race on the tightest budget ever but he still used to beat me and Lawson all the time.
He used to take me to the F1 Stock cars at Odsall Stadium in Bradford in his unbelievably fast Vauxhall Chevette!
I don't know if you were aware but I am married to Alex Bateson, sister of Matt Bateson who with his dad Malcolm was a stawart of Pendle club?
I have just mentioned this thread to her and she reckons David Peel was a bit pervy!??:woot:

Adam Longrigg works at a Skipton firm called Bentleys. He,s a contrcts manager and I see him quite a bit. Married with a kid, think he lives in foulridge now. He,s into track daying cars with his brother, has a Talbot Sunbeam I think. That Gareth kid, I remember my step brother Nick getting wound up because he got thrashed (nearly) all the time by him, was very funny!! Dont remember the Izuzu car though but I remember his dad bollocking him all the time. What happened to the Catley,s? they had pendle models. I look back and it makes me laugh, how did we manage to race, we had no money at all. Had crap batteries and knackered motors, I thought my Kyosho Le Mans 13t double was the dogs, and as for the intronics firefly gt speed control, looked like a sofa and was about as much use.

We still get Xmas cards from Mark Smith, he has a load of kids now.
Pendle Models is still going with my uncle Leon still running it but he just stocks the toy end of R/C now.
My Auntie Doreen is now bed ridden with MS and lives at the shop but she can't go out but still sharp as a tack.
Cousin Leon is married with 2 kids and owns a disability shop in Blackburn selling motorised scooters and Stannah Stairlifts!
I thought Adam Longrigg was well into his Mountain Bike racing, last time I saw him he was riding a very expensive Cannondale.
If he is at a firm called Bentleys in Skipton is that owt to do with Skipton Ford who are currently contesting the British Historic Rally Championship in a very nice Mk2 BDA Escort? He is called Bentley??

I forgot the Smith Brothers, they were ok. Thats the same Bentley,s. Mark and Edd Bentley have the Escort. Its usually in the Skipton Ford workshop after a rally getting bent back in shape! When at Ball Grove races we used to call Steven Lawson Marvin after the depressed Android off Hitch Hikers Guide to the galaxy, (sorry Steven) dont know why, looks I guess . There were some other Brothers, I cant remember their names but their Dad had an Audi Quattro which impressed me at the time. Glad the Catley,s are still about, you,re Auntie was a star.
