View Full Version : 502x set ups where are they come on people

Ok
So I have been racing the 502 for a while now and and have no complaints but it seems that people have lost faith in this buggy. I have come to this conclusion based on the fact there seems like there are no setups available other than lees on trfracing. It seems that the 511 is the preferred choice does anyone have any tried and tested set-ups for the 502 for grass/mixed surface conditions ?

Not sure why the TRF502X doesn't get much love. I figure it's because most of the racers on this forum are racing carpet, or clay, and likely the 511 is superior for that. Where I race the track is dirt and fine gravel, and the open-belt cars don't survive all that great. My 502X has been bulletproof. I put some Durango outdrive boot covers to seal the diff output shafts and the gear boxes have not collected any dust or dirt. So far I am second in my points-series, mainly from always finishing the race in one peice, so hat's off to Tamiya for the quality of the buggy.
Anyways..........I have yet to find a reason to change the set-up from the instructions as the car handles totally great. Very predictable and fast.

I run the same shock set-up on my 511 and 502 so in regards to set-up, just copy a decent 511 outdoor set-up.
The only major thing you need in the 502 is weight, stick a massive lump of brass or lead between the saddles, and another 30-40g up front around the servo.
You can also go the whole way and flip the inner camber plates to run the ballstud upside down. The only other thing needed is our JTbitz steering link which adds more steering.
I found the 502 a very simple car to set-up and was able to drive it fast straight away, but outdoors i do find the 511 easier and more stable, especially out of bends with the forward traction a belt drive gives.
