Hello!

Been looking around for a while and trying to decide what option parts i should buy for my cougar SV.

Would grade myself as a newbie, started driving and racing this early spring.

By now i have gotten a pretty good hand with the car and have running it as kit.

I been looking into the +8 mm chassie and maybe some weightkits.
But after looking at the setups that people use on astro it seems that your driving with short wheelbase?

So even with all the praise it have gotten it seems it's just for dirt/clay?

So all and all what hot ups do you guys think i should get?

As i think now it's, Spring kits, a little more oils. Some weights and maybe chassie or new alugearbox?

Also now im running a 6,5t motor and are going to change it to a 8,5t probly to calm the car down also for a beginner like me. what Spurgear and pion is recommended?

Well sorry about the long and complicated post.
And last a fish eye pic over the course so you get an idea of how big jumps and stuff are:

Hello , cougar is a top car especially on astro were it's ace.
Longer chassis option is not absolutly necessary for astro but it's a plus . Car is easy with it.
6.5 motor is way too powerfull, 8.5 geared 25x76 is great with Speedpassion V3. great top speed and acceleration.
On astro weight kit is not necessary ,just add a little weight ( 25-30 gr ) under the nose to keep it on the ground under acceleration.
We always run with rear shocks on the back ( personnal choice )
Front 35 oil - original piston - 4.5 spring
rear 40 oil - 5 hole piston - 2.5 spring.

Important think is tyre choice , depending on track and weather condition.
Mini spike silver all around is top for the morning with humidity on the track , than yellow mini spike . Front choice depending on how you feel the steering - from stagg( used or new ) - cut stagg ( handmade) to the new cut stagg if really on need of big steering.

Okey!

Then ill probly get a new chassi to try it out. That and a 8,5t motor will probly make some differens

Thanks for the help!

If someone else wants to give any more tips i'm more than happy!

Hi Nedro,
I don't think the alloy gearbox is a must have option. The original one with the 4 screws is good enough. I don't have any problem with it.
In my opinion, useful options are:
- 5° front hub carrier
- Complete springs kit in order to tune the car with different track conditions
- Some spare that may break such as front arms
- Front Titanium turnbuckles much more solid than the original gold ones
- 78 spur gear in order to move the motor more to the rear axle

And that's it! Just drive...:D

Okey thanks!

Been looking around and can't find a 78 spur gear only 76.
What differens will it make in how the car perform? Have the kit one now?
and a 21 teeth pinion.

Can buy a 25 pinion. But what will that influence in the cars performance?

can't really find a good explantion online?! seems that higher value on the pinion will make the car go faster, and a higher vaule on the spur slower? So if im changing to a higher pinion and lower spur, would it make a differens?

Kinda want to have this sorted out so i can understand what changes when i adjust the gearing.

Thanks so far guys!

Only things i recommend would be the trishbits weight set, which includes under motor weight and under servo weight.

A full set of springs for front and rear.
Some titanium turnbuckles and possibly tapered pistons.
Ive just started to run tapered pistons and found the car to be a little safer on bumpy sections.

Other than that the standard car is brilliant.
You dont need alu gearbox or chassis or any of that to be honest.
Especially being a newbie you wouldnt notice much difference i dont think

How about the 5 hole front Atomic Carbon shock tower used to tq and win the first National of the year
