well he let me build it so we went for the maiden voyage and it didnt end well
i wouldnt say we were going stupid with it but we gave it some slight speed runs and so on as you do found that the steering was pretty poor
any way we noticed abit of slipping and assumed it was just the rear diff abit loose nothing to worry about wasnt that bad but then all power went from the rear wheels
and we took it in bits to find this

spares, most decent tamiya stockists.

Why it happened is the diff was slipping, overheated and melted. one of two things was either the diff screw wasn't tight enough or you never glued the diff plates to the plastic holders.

I have done something like this only once. My speed controler went haywire. The car had one wheel on a pipe and the other in the air and it was full throttle. It melted the diff like yours in 30 seconds.
Just be sure the diff is tighter next time. You will probably need to replace the diff rings and balls if it was slippage. They should be pretty torn up.
The stock parts will be fine when the diff is set correctly.
Good Luck
