evilbert
29-06-2011, 07:52 PM
i would agree with you but shes looking a little worse for wear at the minute as i had to 'borrow' some bits to get the S44 working lol...

And anyway you must be kidding, with no craig, no andy and no mike i should at least get second in 4wd *prays bobby isn't there either :)

peetbee
29-06-2011, 08:47 PM
LOL, shall I run 4wd to keep you and Huw company then Bill?

Will anybody have a B44.1 there??

I want to have a good look at one beffore i buy :)

Cheers.

There much the same as the B44, If you buy a B44.1 get the OLD motor mount. The .1 version is rubbish! It's weak, and not as easy to adjust as the old one. Odd really, because they say the 'cam' is better! Having owned both, the old mount is stronger and easyer to adjust.

When my .1 hit the wall, the motor ripped straight out and bent a £30 motor shaft !!!!!!!!

Just my thoughts.

Rob.

Yeah thats the problem hitting the wall......I hate it when Andy makes hitting the wall part of the track, if only there was a way to not hit the wall.

evilbert
29-06-2011, 10:48 PM
its not just the wall you have to worry about in 4wd, Andy also likes to put a very badly placed car on the track at random points during the night lol.. I've heard from Craig that it can actually do quite a lot of damage :p

Come join the 4wd party Pete

peetbee
29-06-2011, 11:43 PM
Well as Andy's not there we can have a track with no intentional wall hitting!

I'll have my B44.1 there if you want to take a look Chris.
No problems with the cam mount so far Rob, but I'm hoping to never hit the wall as hard as you did!

And Bill that's just mean, heh heh heh!

30-06-2011, 10:05 AM
lol...trouble is, if I'm not careful (unless it's too late already!) I'll get a reputation for that little trick! Sorry again Craig

Seems every day is a school day...Fridays lesson was that coming racing with your head up your arse isn't a good look!

Must try not to practice sleep deprevation ahead of racing from now on!

Anyway, as of today I will just be self employed...which somehow needs to help with the tiredness! :bored: Track build starts at lunchtime Friday's from now on, followed by a quick nap before the hoards arrive. Wonder if that's the best way to run my new business?

Just to clarify, 'I', did not hit the wall, the car did due to an RX 'lock out' because of a static build up we think ;)

RC Racing excuse number 17 I believe?!
Sorry, couldn't resist:D

And remember excuse number 1 is …..”I could have Tq’d but the wind lifted the front of my car”

What number is sleep deprevation? :D Can I have that one!

sunbeam
30-06-2011, 04:35 PM
Yes, you are right, it is just an excuse.

I have a terrible habit of hitting the throttle to the max and holding it there, 30 feet from the end of the main straight just as you should be hitting the brakes !

It was really just a test to see if the car could withstand a full frontal impact at close to top speed, making sure I still had plenty of carpet to accellerate on first.

The conclusion was, the car did, the motor mount did not. If you think about it, if you are travelling down one straight at half speed, and another car has crossed the track and coming at you at half speed, that head on impact would be the same as as my 'test' impact at full speed to which the motor mount gave up, bending a £30 rotor as well as the mount snapping.

Anyway, I don't care, I've not got a B44.1 anymore. Just thought I would give you my findings. Personally, if I were going to buy a 4WD, I would turn my brain off and hand over the cash for another B44.1. It's basically the same as the B44 but with a few little changes, and it's got a Li-Po tray as standard.

I'm not sure anything is better than a B44(.1) when you look at 'The Big Picture' and Paul carries the parts !!!!

If i hit the wall head on with my b4 the motor would be fine....its in the back. ;0

sunbeam
30-06-2011, 07:56 PM
The motor in a B44.1 is in the middle running front to rear. With a sudden impact the motor pulls forward, snapping off the cams. The motor then is free to travel to the front of the car. The pinion gets caught on the mount and bends the motor shaft. These new brushless motors seem to have soft armiturers, as can be seen when you see dents in them when removing pinions.

The old B44 mount does not use the cam system, just the old tried and tested motor bolts. Others have found the cam to snap, it's not just me. A new cam costs about £9 if I recall. But it was the cost of a new rotor for me that was a real pain.

I'd recommend the 44.1,ive not had any severe impacts with walls although I do like to have some power in it from time to time

"If you think about it, if you are travelling down one straight at half speed, and another car has crossed the track and coming at you at half speed, that head on impact would be the same as as my 'test' impact at full speed"

If i remember my physics, that isnt right ... If you run into another identical car, both of you doing 20 mph giving a theoretical 40mph smash, it isnt the same as your car going into a wall at 40mph - if the wall dosent collapse - in terms of damage caused to the cars...

The mass and speed do cancel out equally, but in this case the energy between the 2 cars hitting each other head on is theoreticaly spread between both cars ( if they are identical, if they are different the lighter or weaker car takes most of the force ), whereas with the solid wall it will hardly absorb any of the force of impact into itself at all, the car taking all the energy of the crash therefore causing more damage to itself.

So basically, if you have a choice, crash head-on into another weaker car at 20 than the wall at 40...

Yup ill be there :D

Prof Mateus, the other option is to buy a car that can with stand a head on impact whilst going flat out. One has been made.

What about lack of opportunities to cheat.. can I have that as an excuse?

Yes it has James, my 501x does it perfectly - saves damaging any of my Lazers

"What about lack of opportunities to cheat.. can I have that as an excuse?"

Ive noticed youve always been brilliant at making your own opportunities to cheat Bill, you've no need to use that as an excuse....

Mate you crack me up, the ZXR is stronger than the 501 and 511. I had a head on with Dave when he jumped the track marker by mistake with his YZ10 and I hit him flat out. I only got a scratch on my wishbone, he had to buy a new thick wishbone, tierod, and shock tower.

I would say though that the new Traxxas 4wd truck is rather impressive as it just keeps taking abuse and keeps on going.

I was joking with you James....

I should be there 6.30pm or earlier today. Got a meeting in Cardiff at 3.30pm so shouldn't be there longer than a couple of hours...

Anyone else getting there early so we can start putting up the track quicker ?

twas an ace night, some very close consitent racing going on in round three 4wd closely followed by Pete's complete inability to concentrate for more than 10 seconds at a time, very funny lol.
