Hi all,

Am thinking of starting 1/12th, and wondered what the consensus of opinion is on the available chassis options.

Thanks

Where do you plan to run, my first advice would to be go the club where you intend to run, see what the other guys run. This is good advice for set ups spares etc.
All the 1/12th cars are very competitive, most popular are the CRC GEN X ,Associated 12r5i , Also examples from Serpent, Bmi and the soon to be released CR V5 .

if you are a newcomer to 12th there is only beginners choice, an Associated L4 t-bar car, however if you want to run 1S LiPo you will need a link car such as the R5 or 5.1

The L4 is an unlikely choice as spares are almost non-existant now, and no one runs with four cells as the Rules limit voltage to 3.7v. If your club is still running four cells, the the 12R5 is still the car to get as it will take four cells and spares are plentiful. It will also be 1S ready without having to change cars again.

There really isn't a bad car out there any more. The most popular choices are the 12R5, CRC GenXL and V-Dezign. A few use Serpent. Of them all, the 12R5 is the easiest to build and setup, it runs great from the box, and there are always people around to help with set-ups, spares and advice. The only difference between the winning cars of Jefferies and Levainen and the kit in the box is the gold side springs and a couple of bottles of damper oil. HTH :)

I was advised by someone who's races 1/12 at high level to go for either the crc or the ae 12r5.1

You need to be careful what car you get as if want run lipo then the older models will not be anygood

I picked up s/h ae12r5.1 and lipo for £100 so there are bargains to be had.

Sounds like the 12R5.1 could be the way to go then?

Thats what i bought,
very strong car and isn't hard to get set up. Also the spares are easy to get hold of, not that youll break anything :p

cause it's crap

don't waste your money ;)That's rubbish, and you should be ashamed of yourself for such a remark. It goes well with the people that use it, and there is nothing wrong with the car. It is expensive, but it is probably the best made car on the block, and it is strong and light.

There really isn't a bad 12th car out there any more. CRC and AE do a lot of winning all over the World, V-Dezign wins in the UK. Xray has no significant size of team in the UK, nor does Corally, BMI, CEFX and Serpent. All of these less popular makes have been good performers for their dedicated followers.

Glenn, I hope you're big enough to retract that remark, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Ignore him folks, I hope he's just having a bad day!
