Hi All,

Confused.com

Worlds B4, is it a lengthened B4.1 chassis or a shortened T4 chassis, or a mix of the two?

How I understand it is they cut a piece out of a T4 chassis. It must be the older chassis moulding because it has the round mark in the bottom.

I believe they have shortened the T4 chassis...

So who's gong to rush out and get a T4 chassis and get cutting?!

Rich Lowes car looked a very neat cut and shut, pics are on oople worlds report

Seems funny, Losi 22 is getting shorter, B4.1 is getting longer!

So now they are both very similar length, B4 made longer by 5mm (IIRC) and 22 being shortend by 5mm (up to 10mm) and there was 10-15mm between them to start with

HI Darren not wanting to correct you but its 8mm longer then standard B4;).

How does that lengthen B4.1 chassis stand up against the T4 chassis used for the B4 XL?

HI Darren not wanting to correct you but its 8mm longer then standard B4;). Cheers Paul, I wasnt certian hence the "IIRC" but was sure it was not as much as 10mm.... Still puts the longer B4 and the "shorter" 22 about the same now, maybe they are homing in on the "perfect" new 2wd length........

The chassis' used by the team in Finland are shortened T4 chassis.
Some of the non-factory British team had Paul Worsley do the mod for them so they would be running the same car the works team had decided on after the warm-up. Definately set-up for the meeting seeing as both Proline and JConcepts had adapted their shells to fit.

As I understand it, it's not something that has been run in the UK and is a 'dirt spec'. Seeing as the Losi car is already long and Kyosho seem to have lengthened their chassis too, it's clearly working on dirt.
Although Matsukura TQ'd a round with the standard chassis as well...

Absolutely no idea if AE plan on doing this mid length chassis as a production part yet.

Cheers for the update Keith, are you going to give a long B4 a go??

You were pretty rapid with the std B4 or is it C4.1 now??

Anyway its AE/CML so all good!

does anyone know the exact dimensions to make the chassis..where to cut and how much..?...sorry if I've missed it if it was posted before somewhere

11.1 mm is the distance removed from the T4 chassis. Most are cutting out 11mm and then sand smooth to get to the 11.1 mm mark. I'm making two, one 4mm longer and one 8 mm longer. I'm not 100% yet on the long chassis fad but I'll give it a go and see how it is.

Cut two strait lines behind the rear battery posts, where the side pods of the chassis are straight.
Glue with a quality and fresh super glue. Some are using epoxies.
Create 4 carbon or aluminum braces.
Tap the carbon braces and chassis for screws where shown on the pictures.
Glue and screw the carbon braces onto the chassis.

Can anyone explain WHY and WHEN (read - which conditions) this thing is supposed to be soooo much better than the stock chassis??? Because keep in mind the vasaa track was very peculiar... ultra smooth, crazy jumps, chicanes, ... not your everyday track...

I believe a longer chassis is more stable at high speeds and jumps better/easier. It's not so good for tight very technical tracks.

with the longer chassie you got a little less steering, but you can push the car more trough and in the corner. Also better over bumps and jumps a little bit better.

Well, that depends on where you live, now doesn't it? :)

Very true - let's call it "average track" then :p

Yes - I understand the benefit of a longer chassis... what strikes me is that everyone, regardless of what kind of track they run on, thinks that this lengthened chunk of plastic will solve everything but world hunger and goes chop T4 parts right away... there's a lot of conditions where this won't work, and this is why the stock chassis is as it is ;)

The few people that post in this thread is not everyone :-) And you don't know if you don't try... It's not because it works on a large dirt track, that it can't be good anywhere else. Same for the stock chassis.

Since a longer chassis makes the car more stable on high speed, over jumps, and through bumps, I believe that a majority of people will find it handles better than their stock chassis on many tracks. I would even say that the average racer will like this more than the world class drivers, as the car will be more forgiving (also on thight high grip tracks, it's just more stable).

I already tested a longer chassis last winter on a high grip indoor track (after the 22 came out). Didn't like it there because it reduced steering too much for me (was 12mm longer). But it did drive easier (not faster!! easier).

And easy is what many people are after who are struggling with the nimble characteristics of a standard B4.
