hi all, im looking at moving to off-road from TC...

few questions...

Is this a wise move??

Is off-road cheaper than TC?

ive looked at some buggies... mostly B44, xx4we, D4

are these buggies good on rough? my track is very bumpy (IPSWICH)

what spares do i need?

do you need setup system? (as in a hudy one)

i say this becuase im on a tight budget! im only 15 going 16 and am looking to move to a cheaper class because TC is just stupidly expensive to keep up with all the knew gizmo's etc. And i say about the hudy set-up system because ive got one for my TC but obviously it wont be of use on a buggy so is it worth selling and maybe spending the money on spares or motor or something like that.

thanks jordan

Hi jordan all of the cars are good on the bumps all good value fo rmoney all about te same price got for which ever yo ulike the most you wont relaly need a setup station for buggys spares i would get the usuals shocks towers hubs wishbones bulkheads. If you want a car with impicable reliablity that performs really well the d4 would proberly be your best bet the b44 seems to be having some teathing problems with the shock shafts shock caps wishbones top decks bulkheads. The xx4 i have one i love it as everyone knows lol i think its as strong as most cars on the market easy to drive and good over the bumps but again how long are parts gonig to be available.

Greeny, do it!

I did it ater 12 years or so o on road, of road it so much cheaper, and its deinatley harder and you can only drive at about 80%:eh?:

Its so much more fun. If you go for one of the BJ4 clones you will be fine.

You dont need a set up system at all!! so sell it

Just get some wish bones and shock towers and maybe a set of hubs and you will be good to go.

This will be the best move you make and wont regret it:thumbsup:

indeed i could go 2wd... but would it be able to keep up with the 4wd boys?

as in ipswich we run all together...

so i need something that can keep up?

You'll likely get a good deal if you keep your eye on the FOR SALE section on here.

I'd recommend going for a Laser ZX-5 for your first 4wd buggy - I find it a forgiving car to drive, quite tough and the parts are cheaper than most. Most buggies have weak points though, so be prepared to pay for accidents. :)

i dont reli want a CR... ive heard they aernt as good as the B4 but the RB5 has the best of both worlds and is also the strongest.

im probally leaning towards a 2wd now... because ive seen the prices and it seems to be very good value for money, but obvsiouyl its guna take alot more gettin used to.

According to previous posts, you've already had an X10, XX4, D4 XXX-cr and still gone back to TC. Having had all those cars and not kept using them, why not buy a B44 or a B4 then you'll have had them all!

ive had a X10 and a XXX-CR but the cr i tried do a mid motor conversion and totally mucked it up... this was because afta one full race day i could not get to grips with it... and the x10 i bought but then i was not suited to my club... people had owned them and sold them asap.

go down to the club you intend to race at see what everyone else runs, see how they handle, try and have a go with them to see if you like them.

also if you run a popular car and don't have a spare part you're more likely to be able to find someone that does otherwise you may have a lot of early finishes.

my choice would be 2wd and a B4 spares are widely available, the cars are cheeper (team kit is well under £150) and generally stronger and tires dont wear out as quick which is all good for a budget.

matt

If you are on a budget i would go for a 2wd as they are cheaper to run. I know a few people down at ipswich had the X6 so a B4 would be a good start.

No disrespect intended, but if you can't get to grips with the xxx-cr, then 2wd is probably not for you as it's probably the most neutral 2wd car that I've driven. Maybe a cheap 4wd is the way to go

You'll have to ask Stu yourself but from my conversations with him it wasn't that he didn't like the car but other influences that gave rise to his switch back.

Totally agree mate :o puts gear up for sale then doesn't know if he wants to sell it :wub then wants to sell up and try off road "AGAIN" :eh?: i dont think he knows what he wants ,

Yep, don't want to be discouraging him.

Personally, I went from TC last year to 2wd and found it difficult (but then did go straight into the indoor regionals on pollished floor) but outdoors I found it easier to drive than the TC.
I also ran the RB5 and found it a very good car. Stu moved from that chassis because they wouldn't give the UK the support it needed. The car made the A final in a national last year don't forget, so can't be that bad. And I can't remember breaking anything either.

Sounds awesome telboy... did u go to 2wd mod or a slower motor?

because atm im running stock tc and was wondering if i change to 2wd with mod its going to be to many things at once to adapt to.

i think if i get a 2wd it will be the rb5!!

ive just gotta ask the perants for permission to sell my TC stuff then i can go to the RB5... no gurantee yet but... i reli would like to change!!

I went from stock TC to 2wd with a 19t. got used to it then went for a mild mod, 17t or something similar.
Then after doing the indoors last year (4-5 meetings) I then went mental and put a 8x2 in before going to a 10x2. I found the 10x2 fine and easily controlable on grass.

I'd say if your going for a 2wd from TC the best options are the XXX-CR and the RB5 as both are a lot more stable than the B4 (thus easier to drive initially). Obviously I'm going to say the RB5 has the edge overall ....... and they tend to be cheap 2nd hand too.

hi all, just wondered...

is the B4 team any good?

ino it isnt graphite and doesnt has threaded shocks or anything... but for £35 less is it worth it?

thanks jordan

Both the factory team b4 and team version now have a plastic chassis as they are much nicer to drive with them, with a the graphite chassis the car was very twitchy and difficult to drive so the change to plastic chassis is great:thumbsup: for the extra £35 or so it is well worth getting the FT B4 with the better shosk shafts and bearings etc. also the ti turnbuckles as i used to bend the steel ones from the team version quite easily and never had a problem with the ti's from the FT B4, also the front alloy hinge pin brace you get with the FT b4 is a must! toughens the up alot compared to the plastic one you get with the team version, for the extra stuff you get with the FT B4 it is very worth it! With the team version you would probably find yourself buying some of the FT upgrades which would most likely end up costing you alot more than the extra £35 for all the upgrades the FT car has.
Hope this helps

thanks for that... the reason i ask is because i can only get about £200 for my touring car stuff... and i need to get a rolling chassis, few spares and wheels and tires for this.

what spares does the B4 FT need?

list the mian ones... because the less spares i buy the more chance of me getting a B4 FT it is.

because a b4 ft is £159.99 then i need springs, spares, wheels and tires and it comes to over £200

where as the rb5 i can just make £200 because the RB5 is £150

and the B4 TEAM is £124.99 and i get get spares springs and wheels and tires for about £200

i need some serious help LOL... its reli hard to choose... although i could get a second hand B4 FT... but tbh i would'nt mind a knew one...

but if i could get a B4 FT in perfect condition with spares then i would be well away!

thanks jordan

Front Spring, Silver, Blue
Rear Springs, Silver
Spares
Front wish bones
Front shock tower
Rear wish bones
Rear wing mounts
For the extra 9.99 i really would go for the B4 as the amount of help with set ups and track side surport will be alot better.
Go for the FT as the front brace, steering bearings and HD servo saver spring that you would need for the team would put it at the same price as the FT, and you get the better shocks and bits with it.

Mike Hudson

Basic spares i would go for are
front wishbones £5-pair
front bulkhead £2.50
front shock tower £5?
front hubs couple of quid
and front springs- silver and blues, rear silvers

don't buy carbon spares either like the wishbones and stuff, the plastics ones are cheaper and better me thinks, i've never broken a rear wishbone but i've broken every front carbon wishbone i ever had-about 10:o and only broken 2 plastic ones, the track side support for this car is fantastic, never seen anyone who hasn't been able to get any help or advise with anything for this car
RB5 shocks are unreliable, the ae threaded shocks are simple but fantastic when built correctly

yeah indoors or outdoors the one of the reasons the b4 is so successfull as it has a very similar setup for all tracks (silver fronts are better outdoors than blue fronts in most cases) oh and shockoil 40wt in front and 30wt in rear is usually what most people run

matt
