Just a quick one, wanted to come down this Wed, what do I need regards membership? Do you have a web site giving some details? I'm runing a CAT SX 2, is there plenty of people in this class and at a noice level like me?
Sorry fo all the questions?

Hi Muzzie, thanks for enquiring about our club!
There are no special rules regarding coming down, membership is entirely optional. Just come down and we will help you out to get started!
It's in the middle of holiday season at the moment so numbers are a little down but there are at least 2 other Cats that run, along with very good quality short course trucks and a Durango is in the pipeline too.
There is no web site at the moment, but the directions and times etc are on one of the above threads in our section.
I believe you can race 3 times without BRCA membership, but you will need to sort that out to get insurance etc (it's about £15 a year)
See you there! John
My lad and I are staying at my brothers caravan, in Sherwood, are we ok to come down tomorrow night (Wed)? We are running 1/10 2WD. We've also got a couple of 1/18 Losi Mini T buggy conversions that we have never run due to lack of places to run in our neck of the woods - Leicestershire.

As Jason says, any electric class is welcome at Mansfield, the more the merrier!
We have a nice large track, plenty of pitting space and mains leccy (but bring an extension lead if you have one)

Thanks lads. Question, what make of cars were running in heat 2 ? One with the Clio shell for example
Thanx from Max and me also; I loved my first opportunity to run the 1/18 buggy. And good tight practice for Max.
Will race again, next time we are in the area

They were Tamiya "mini's", front wheel drive, excellent little things for learning good lines etc.

Hi all,
I was just wondering if I would be able to drop by for about 10 minutes or so just to see what everything is like, it will be my first time at a club and I only got my car about a week ago.
I know I will need BRCA insurance but I want to know i will like things before I go out and get it. I would have normally just got it and then come down and see what happens but at the moment my car is broken (after only a week) and im waiting for the parts to fix it.
Would this quick visit be ok? Any reply would be great, thanks. :)

Hi Telmir.
anyone who is interested can come down for a visit, Mansfield's a friendly club and very welcoming with new starters to this hobby of ours. There will always be someone here to help you along and offer advice.
Do be aware though that once you see what goes on and how good some of the racing is that your visit might be longer than 10 minutes so don't get leaving anyone sitting in the car outside waiting :o

Hi to all. Complete newbies to electric, we are Martyn and son Joel. The only experience we have had is a few times outdoor bashing with a 1/8th nitro (Losi 810). We have now acquired a couple of cheap and cheerful 1/10th electric buggies. Unfortunately Joel will probably not be able to join me as he is with me only every other w/end so when the Sundays stop he will have to wait until they re-start
Anyway, I will pop down on Weds night to check things out if that's OK and for a bit of 'before you start' advice?
Looking forward to meeting you guys

Hi, I popped in last night, impressed with the track and it seems well organised. Didn't get chance to speak to anyone - everyone looked well busy. I may have described us as 'newbies' but there seems to be a distinct difference between 'newbie' and 'novice'. You couldn't get more novice than we are - two RTR buggies literally 'out of the box'!
I am wondering if my son and I would be better to go and get some practice in on a bit of waste ground before coming down again as you guys seem a little advanced, judging by the massive tool chests and copious cars in bits ;) didn't see any other novices or kids (my boy is 11) and I am worried that we will be 'in at the deep end' i.e we have not driven either car before and to think that our first go with them will be in an actual race is a bit daunting... :o

Everybody has to start somewhere. If you go racing anywhere, just explain to who ever is on race control that you've never even run a car before and you'll get put in the bottom heat(beginners/novices).
Before you have your first race you'll be able to have a practice around the track.
The best way is just to run your own race, take your time and you'll soon get the hang of it. Don't try and race the others or that's where you'll come unstuck.
Just bashing on the street won't do you much good as you will need to learn the lines of the track(s) your running on and get used to having other racers around you:D.
Main thing is to go and enjoy it and if your unsure about anything ask👍

please come along, as phil has put we all start somewhere, the top heat at Mansfield probably has a combined experience well into the 100s of years of racing, and the only way you get competitive is to come and race, you havnt put what cars you run? my son who is now a regular B final winner broke his car in his first ever race at Mansfield 18 months ago so he is still classed as a novice, so don't worry about being new, there are plenty of us who will help to get you sorted out and on your way:thumbsup:

We race at Mansfield on Wed Nights (3rd floor) doors are open from 5pm til 10pm, just turn up everyone is really friendly and can give you some advise / help. I started racing two years ago and was in the same position as you, I now know what I'm doing - kind of
I wish I'd would have come to the club before I started buying things (cars, servo lipo etc) it would have saved me loads of £££..
See you there - Ask for Muz, John, Jason or Gaz

Hi all,
Hoping to make my debut buggy night tomorrow, just finished building the Schumacher k1 Aero, what motors do you guys run in 4wd? I have 10.5 tekin redline or 7.5 cheapo, and what kind of FDR do you guys run?
Any other suggestions welcome as I normally only race touring car but fancy the buggy scene too.

Hi Lenny.
I answered your post in the 1/10th buggy section and thought I'd post it here to improve the chances of you seeing it.
I would recommend jumping in at the deep end so to speak. Vrc won't prepare you for the track at Mansfield and bashing is NOTHING like driving on a race track. Stay away from 4wd buggies, no one runs them at Mansfield. A 2wd is needed.
Don't spend much on the buggy itself. A cheap team c will suffice, I have two retired rolling race chassis and may consider selling one for cheap.
Put your money into the radio and servo to give you the best chance of keeping it under control. I've seen too many beginners struggling to get clean laps With their top spec buggies because their radio system has so much lag and the servo is too slow and weak.
Radios- Stay well away from core, etronix, absima, ansmann and the other generic Chinese brands. Stick with Spektrum, KO Propo, Sanwa and Futaba. Do you want to use a stick or wheel radio?
Servos- Any metal geared Savox will do.
Sensored esc and motor combo is needed. The speed passion reventon s with 13.5 competition motor is plenty. I've won B finals in the past with less power.
As far as batteries are concerned, hard cased and the cheaper the better. Don't be sucked into spending loads of cash on them. The same goes for the charger.

Regarding your buggy mate you need to find one you will be happy with, you will get a lot of advise from people but ask if you can try it most people will be happy to show you how to race. Regarding ESC and Motors, most people run Duel Sky ESC and then a motor of personal choice. Batteries go to hobby kings website and look at there turnigy range they are great and cheap :-)

Hi Lenny
The best way of learning is to just come down and chat and we’ll talk you through stuff.
It’s difficult to know “where” and “what” to spend your money on when you’re staring out. I know I’ve made some mistakes that in hindsight I wouldn’t have make if I’d of asked first. Everyone at the club is friendly and we all like a good crack.
I would agree, the most important thing for me would be getting a good Radio (with end point and Expo), receiver and servo.
Again Stick or Wheel?
I have 2 wheel radio’s for sale if you’re interested, which you can try before you buy, your choice. Stick there may be some else who can give you advise on that one.
For me its Savox servos all the way, I run a Savox 1257 which I’ve ran for a year an a half with zero issue and I do hit it hard especially when the ‘red mist’ comes down. You will pay around £55 for one but its worth it.
Batteries, Lipo and chargers I would recommend Hobby King (type it into Google). I run Nano Tech lipo and they are great batteries and cheap as. Don’t buy tho until you’ve decided what car you fancy as some use either stick, saddle or shorty configuration.
Speedo and Motors, this is a personnel thing as there are loads of good ones on the market. This depend on budget but if you buy a good one you won’t have to change it out. I have a Speed Passion Revention (ESC and 7.5t motor) for sale that I ran for 6 month. This would be more than fast enough, may be too fast LOL, but you can turn it down.
Car’s, I would recommend, unless you have deep pocket, buy second hand. Look on the for sale section of oople you can find some real bargains.
My tip would be find out what most people are running and follow suit. This will help you to understand car setup and how to repair bit when you inevitably break something. This can also help if you don’t carry many spares, as someone may have something so you can continue racing.
People run:
Team C TM2
Durango 210
Xray XB 2wd
Kyosho RB 6
Yokomo
Schumacher Cougar KF /
All are good cars and there isn’t much between then, so your choice!
Other things to consider, Tool box / bag, 2mm & 1.5mm hex driver and other tools and personal transponder.
See you Wednesday

Some great advice here.
Your money will go much much further if you consider second hand. I'm pretty sure Muzzie used to use a Spektrum DX3c and if this is the one he has for sale then snap it up! great wheel radio!
Good call on the savox servo. I've been running a low profile 1251 for over a year and it's been flawless, £45 well spent. It's not uncommon for people to destroy the gears on 2 or even 3 'cheap' servos in one night! This won't happen with a savox 125x.
The speed passion combo Muzzie has for sale is a good setup, it's exactly what I use in my Yokomo and it is rapid. Too much motor for a beginner but still may be a good buy as the throttle can be down dialled to tame it.
The two rolling chassis I have are both Team C TP02c race spec buggies. They are identical to a TC02c but use stick/Shorty packs as opposed to saddles. They are good buggies and there's never a shortage of parts at the club.
If you want I could bring one of them next week for you to look at.

Wow some great advice there it's a lot to take in all at once , as for radio I'm not sure if I'd get on with wheel but I'll give it a try if the car I get has one with it but I'd prefer sticks I'm looking at used cars but being careful not to dive into something without first gaining some more knowledge
Hope to pop along to a few more club nights and ask many many more questions first

Great advise guys. Stick radios are now becoming a scarce bthing, sanwa gemini x for around 150 quid new, these radios are bullit proof. Servos are savox all the way. The team c that ian is selling is a cracking car and there are loads that run at the club so spares arnt a problem. Always ask questions because even the most experianced amongst us dont know everything. Hope to see you soon,(look for the pink and white cars).

Hi, Im looking to get back into racing after a long time off I was 13 last time i raced (now 29) and 2000 batteries were mega bucks...(me n my old man used to do doncaster, worksop, ashby) I notice time has moved on what classes do you guys regularly run I was looking to the minis you guys do or maybe back into 1/10 touring cars like i used to do time ago with a losi street weapon and an sst. At present i have a tt-01 i muck about with from time to time... bit of advice on a purchase on a cheapy set up to see if i get back into it. Hi,
My name is Matt Chandler, I've been doing some research on RC drifting and seeing what areas have a RC drift track or hold RC racing I have come across your RC Racing Club and was seeing all the comments about the track surface.
As a researcher I thought if I could pass you on this information it may help you to upgrade your area for the drifting which may bring more racers in your area to the club.
Hopefully this will help
P.s. I don't mind putting some money towards if you do decide to upgrade. Just pass on the figure and I'll see how much I can put towards it.

Hi Benny, as a club we are a buggy/offroad club and our carpet stays down all year round, we used to have a drifting section when we were a floor down from were we are now, very poorly attended. if you like you are more than welcome to come and pay us a visit and have a talk to our race director, hope this helps

Hi guys, I was wondering if you are still running down at Botany Av at 18:00.
I know it's shot notice but can anyone let me know by tonight: l_____________@hotmail.com
or just let me know for another week.
Thanks.
I just want to come down talk to you guys, see what's required and how much fun it can be. I built an RC buggy when I was ten, that's about twenty years ago now, so I guess a lot has changed...

Yes Dom they race every wednesday, racing starts at 7 but people get there about 6-6.30. I've only been a couple of times but they are a friendly bunch and will help you get re-started(don't buy anything until you spoken to them, theres some good 2nd hand kits for sale from some of the guys). Its £5 and racings on carpet, the track and jumps change every week to keep you on your toes.
Im not able to get there tonight due to work but I hadn't raced for 25 years. The batteries, speed controllers and motors have really changed but essentially its the same challenge of keeping a small car in a straight line as fast as possible!
Good luck !

hi Dom,as Steve has said every wednesday night from around 6pm, come and have a chat and see what you think, i came back 3 years ago from a 15 year break, god the technology is fantastic, you can buy instant power off the shelf, but as the old saying goes, faster i sometimes slower, LOL:thumbsup:
Muzzie
26-03-2014, 02:16 PM
Yep come down for a chat, don't be afraid to ask anyone, I still ask daft question. We can get you started no worries
I was looking forward to it, but my garage has not phoned me back and so I have no car (again) this evening.
My main questions would have been where to start I suppose, 2wd, 4wd I'de prefer to buy a kit and build it up myself to get to know it better then upgrade over time. But I guess I'll have to wait till next week.
Thanks' all for the answers.

More Tool –various socket drivers, Camber Gauge, turnbuckle wrench, ride height gauge etc. (you can borrow tools if needed)
2nd set of Lipo’s
Hauler Bag – This is when you realise you have all the gear and no idea.
This all depend on how big your budget is…..
Start with your radio gear, find out which suits you best (stick or wheel); this is where I would focus your budget. If you buy decent stuff you won’t need to change it and you should progress quicker. E.g. you can have the best car in the world, but if the kit you use to control it is poor, the car will always be poor.
Then you can decide what car you should get, 2wd or 4wd?
At Mansfield there are more people running 2wd at the moment and I feel it’s a better place to start, but there has been a recent rise in the 4wd numbers. I would recommend getting a car that other members are using. This will help with set-up, spares and breakages that will more than likely happen.
Popular Cars used at Mansfield are (not in any order):
X-ray xb4 2wd
Schumacher KF
Team C TM2
Durango 210
Team Associated
All are great cars and there isn’t much between them, but you have to consider different thing before buying. Again, it’s all about your budget. Come down next week and we can talk you through it
That is a great insight of what I can look forward to, I would not have considered the radio gear to have been of much importance and there's some things I will have to google. Now finally with my car back I will see you next Wednesday.

Excellent advice. Your radio gear is the single most important piece of equipment you will own. If you buy a crapper you will never be able to reach the next level, there are a load of drivers at Mansfield who have recently upgraded and their performance has increased massively. Plus a good one will last for years and its something you won't ever have to think about again.
Obviously if you're just starting out you don't want to be spending £450 on your radio but there are some good second hand sets out there if you know what to look for.

Great advice Muzzie, I have covered all the basics now at least :)
I bought a Sanwa Gemini X and savox servo and can feel the difference already compared to the cheaper ones to start. I tried a wheel but prefer the old fashioned sticks myself.
Its useful to get a car that others run, it helps with setting up and advice (and the occasional repair replacement part!)

Hi Steve, The tyres we use are Schuey mini pins, but you can run what you like, as for shock tower protector we do run them but they aren't mandatory, hope this helps, Rich, team pink:thumbsup:

Hi guys,
I would like to bring my son over to take a look at your club but I was just wondering is it £5 admission for us both or is it only £5 if you are racing.
I think from reading this thread we need some advice before we waste any more money than we allready have.
I think we are going to need to spend some money on some decent radio gear and possibly servo's going by what people are saying in this thread.
