1 you get more warning
2 might not burst into flames at all !
3 Lipo sacks are a good thing to have around handy to chuck it in if it does swell up and take it outside. but if you charge a pack while in one you cant see it can you ??

From another forum

"
If a LiPo pack has swollen the damage is already done and is terminal. For personal safety it should be kept far away as it is potentially in an unstable state until it has cooled down before it can be disposed of safely. A LiPo pack does not explode as such but can burst and create a violent flame erruption if it goes critical.

If at any time you see smoke or swelling from a LiPo pack you should immediately remove it from the charge source and place it in a bucket of sand and cover it. Do not move it for at least 30-60 mins.

Whilst LiPo batteries are actually environmentally friendly they need to be neutralised before disposal. This can be done by dropping into a bucket of strong salt water for approx 7-10 days then you can dispose of it as any other rubbish.

Look after your LiPo battery pack, always use a proper LiPo charger, never overcharge them, and don't just drop them in your tool box, and you will have no problems with them at all, they will be reliable, consistent and last ages........

And what qualifies you to make such a comment? Don't take offence, but some people on here don't know that you don't really know, so you shouldn't go ahead and post something which isn't true.

bring back the scr's, they only used to fizzle and melt shrink wrap and aometimes a small pop! These lipo and ib's scare the daylights out of me! (the stories do anyway). Is there anything that you can charge them in and see though it on the market for sale?
Hope that guy is not badly hurt?

thats a good idea how about some sort of containes like a metal tin or somthing

You wanna put your conductable batteries in a metal tin?

I put mine in their cardboard boxes with the lid facing away from me, but open. If the worst were to happen that would at least deaden some of the effect.

I wouldn't think that would do that much, apart from throw some flaming shrapnel at you :woot:

I saw the cells explode on Craigs table on Sunday, they blew his charger a good 3 feet high off the desk!

ok maybe not a metal tin but what about somthing robust that would keep the blow out contained { maybe somthing madeof the stuff like a poly buttler draw }

Probably wont do much, if anything, but puts my mind at rest.

Yeah, but then you get shards of plastic flying towards your face. :woot:

Also never been equalised (over a year I think!) and charged at 6 amps...

Wasn't the cells fault

Polystyrene would be a good bomb/IB "charge in box"....

I had heard quite a bit about cells going bang in a big way and though it would be more of a plop until one of our last race meets. A cell blew up on a Novak discharge tray right behind me. It trashed the guys pit table and left me in a cloud of rather bad stink with glowing crap raining down on me...

Very nice! I like! :wtf:

I have IB's too and can honestly say they are the worst quality cells I have ever used. Finicky to charge, difficult to store, very different power curves pack to pack (noticeable on track)
I really hope something happens quick! Lipo's look nice and seem fairly unproblematic as long as certain precautions are followed. I hope the DMC here in Germany get their act sorted and allow them for this season, although it's isn't looking that likely...

what you guys got to remember, if your putting your cells 'in something' you could compound the problem as no air will circulate, and end up insulating the cell.

Really the only thing to do is to drop your charge rate and cross your fingers, thats it.

Oh, and if you got LiPo and a LiPo sack.... charge the pack IN THE SACK, otherwise whats the point.
