Hi
Can anyone tell me if it will fit or if it will kill my TL-01 if I put my B4.1 brushless ESC and motor in it?

Or would I be better off putting a sport tuned motor and a 21 or 23 tooth pinion in it? Its only for some touring car fun in our local club during the winter, I'm an off road person really but the car was only £30 from the car boot with a controller!

Well, if the gears are in good condition and it is fully ballraced, it should be ok.

By ball raced you mean none of the plastic excuses for bearings?
I was thinking about stripping it down and checking and buying a bearing set off evilbay. I've also seen hop up gears, worth doing?
But yeah, it should all work? I can only can Nimh in the chassis as the battery hole is oval, how will they last with a five minute race on a brushless touring car?

no idea on duration, but I think you can get lipo's to fit that hole.

Ive still got my TL-01, had it years but never raced it but i do plan on giving it ago at my local club soon. I also bought these hop ups for it.........

Light weight chassis (grey one)

Ball bearing kit (is a must)

Speed tuned gear set

hollow carbon gear shafts

carbon prop shaft

UJ's drive shafts (universal jointed)

on road spring set (red, yellow, blue)

gold alloy shock upgrade

quick release battery holder

adjustable turn buckles

stabilizer set (anti roll bar)

might be a few other things but cant remember at the minute

looking forward to finally going racing with it............:thumbsup:

Ive still got some NiMH batteries but you can get some oval shaped LiPos to fit in, i think HPI do them in the Plazma battery range :thumbsup:

EDIT: Ansmann do them aswell...........

Thanks, if I do need more power and stick the brushless set up in then I'll get me one of them!

While you look on ebay for ball bearings, look for LiPos as well. Team Orion and IP (Intellect) have then in the shape of regular NiMh battery packs.

The TL01 is quite good for such an old car.

If its a basic one, ball races, oil dampers (I think most had them as std), and front UJ's were all that was needed to make a decent car. The stock gearing is ok, the speed tuned gives you slightly taller gearing.

the other thing that helps is the stabiliser, but thats not necessary to start out.

The previous owner had fitted hop up oil shocks that I've rebuilt. I think I just need to ball race it but will check first to make sure he didn't.
I've ordered a foam bumper as well, I think the other racers will appreciate that!

Will help protect your bodyshell and make it last a bit longer aswell ;)

I need to get myself some new wheels and tires to fit my TL-01 to go racing and ive noticed that the front wheels on the other touring cars what people are using are narrow, do i need narrow wheels front and standard wheels on the rear, Also what tire inserts would you recommend to run with schumacher yellow pins............:confused::confused::confused:

Our club has a standard wheel this year. Sorex 28's. We'll all be using the same front and rear. They come pre glued and ready from schumacher.


Just had the wheels off and drive shaft covers off the TL01, it will need ball racing.
I won't do it until I've tried it first and then only if I want to fit the brushless set up. They've coped well with several packs at a time around the shed so I'm sure they will cope with the first few weeks with only 5 min races! I've never raced indoors so will need a calm car to adjust.

Well, turns out it did need ball racing. I thought I'd test it but 5 mins in and it made a funny noise. A quick strip down showed a brass bush had melted into the gears inside!!
I got it apart and ball raced as much as I can using bearings from another old Tamiya I had. Only the wheels need bearings now. Those brushless motors must generate some heat as I've run continuous packs through the car when it was using a silver can motor for over half an hour and not had problems.
I have another touring car now so this is actually my back up car but I may do a couple of races to see how it compares.
