Hey there

My v1 shocks are due a rebuild.

I usually use the Associated rebuild kit, however, I was wondering if there is any advantage to using an alternative brand of O ring/seal?

Looking for some recommendations please

Check this thread:
Revisiting V2 Shocks (http://www.rcshortcourse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20250)

Might be some good tips there. I have not tried any other o-rings myself, but IŽll try KYOORG03XR – Kyosho Grooved O-Rings when i need to rebuild.

I'd recommend the Associated rings. They are cheap and they work.

The Kyosho rings are a 3mm diameter whereas the Associated shafts are 3.2mm (1/8").

The main reason Associated shocks appear to leak is because people put too much oil in them. They need a bit of air in there, otherwise you are creating excessive pressure in the shock that forces oil out through the seals.

If you build them right, they don't leak. With the pistons down, fill them so the edge of the oil is at the brim with a concave surface, them screw the cap on. Check the shock by compressing it fully, it should have consistent damping throughout the whole travel with no stiffness near full compression (indicating too much oil) and perhaps a tiny squeak of air at the limit.
