Just bought a NTC3 front one way.

The part number is 1728 and it says on the packet 'HEAY DUTY FRONT ONE-WAY NTC3 ONLY'

Just a bit worried about the 'only' part, will this be ok the B44 ? I had a one way in my old BJ and I don't remember the packet for that having the 'only' bit in the description on the bag !

Ta.

just lookin at it i dont see why it whouldnt fit. but the shimming looks diffferent. i think they have made a new one so that you cant shim it for the b44. the old one needs 6 shims this one only ones one either side. looks like they might be trying to make ppl spend more money by saying its only for a ntc3.

that is for the same part number so try an see if it shims the same or if they have actually changed the part

i got a ntc3 oneway and fit great in my b44 with 5 shims on the bevel gear side 0 on the other, with no skipping or no excess noise.

This one-way does appear to be a new model, there are 2 others, part no.3978 and 1705.
Has anyone installed this new one (1728) into a B44, looks like it only comes with a couple of shims from the posted pdf, I seem to remember putting a load of shims on the old one I had one one side as someone has posted here?

I have the 1728 in my b44 only bought 1 month ago. The instuctions i got with the diff say for both the ntc3 and the b44. It says for the b44 to use 6 shims on left (short side) and 0 on the right (long side) This is how i set mine up and last week it is smooth as ever.

Hope this helps

and as per your pics if you look and read carefully it does say
ntc3 on one set of instructions pre b44 i would think
and on the other it says ntc3 and b44
it even gives a starting point for shimming
i cant see what is confusing same diff same part number obviously one pre b44 one after b44 release

Cheers for all the replies.

The bit that was worrying me, not 'confusing me' was the text on the packet of the one way, which as per my first post reads 'NTC3 ONLY', I was worried that associated may have altered the one-way to work for the NTC3 only, as per the packaging description.

Also there are only 2 shims included in the kit, and as people have posted I remember having more shims when I had an older one-way in my BJ. I'll just install it as it is, as I don't have any extra shims to shim it any differently to how the instructions say you should for the NTC3, unless of course there are some spare ones in the B44 kit !

if you dont shim it up propperly it wil just eat your crown wheel and pinion
the bj4 had ntc3 diffs and housing anyway, no worries
the b44 has ae made dif covers hence the need for more shims

Now that's a useful post, much better than wondering why i'm confused :)
So I do need more shims, good job I asked !

Anyone know if you can buy them on their own, I haven't opened the B44 kit yet so i'm not sure if there are any spare in there ?
