MK Racing
22-09-2011, 10:12 AM
We will be running an MKGP this year like we ran a few years ago, the provisional date is November 19th 2WD & November 20th 4WD.
We are currently in talks with 2 venues but wanted to get the dates out there for your diary
The track will be 80% carpet & 20% boards, the location will be South West of the M25 on either near the M3 or M4.
More info will be released next week & hopefully the web site www.mkgp.co.uk (http://www.mkgp.co.uk) will be up by then :D

I know age gets to us all but the M3.M4 is not South of the M25 - I am sure you mean 'South West' of the M25 :)

Awesome, doesn't clash with TORCH's winter series, so I hope to be in for this..
South of J4 of the M3 would be cool :)

*NEWS UPDATE*
I attended the Newbury On Road clubs AGM earlier tonight to ask for thier co-operation with us to hold this meeting to which they voted on and agreed without exception. Great bunch of lads and I thank them for that. Next was the Landlord to get his approval which was not an issue so we are good to go!!
The last GP we held there was simply EPIC and attracted many if not all the UK's finest.

You can excpect another great track layout to challenge even the best!
The venue has now got pitting tables with power around the edges and with plenty of of other space available.
The event dates are still be announced as Marc mentioned but this should be sorted early next week.
Stay tuned for format, booking in and all other details

Would you be willing to allow a heat of micros? I am sure we could get at least a full heat together for this, as I seem to remember micros being at ghe first ever MK GP a few years back? Might have to skip the idea if you plan on a large crossover, (since we probably couldnt jump that far) but otherwise good to go

Cross overs for Micros...get it done!!! Micros are not much less capable than the 10th's indoors...our Caldicot tracks prove that every week!!!
Hoping to get in the GP action for sure! Just hope the date works out for me

I use mini spikes indoors last year and so did Alec, they work just as good, if not better () than mini pins as IMHO they are more reliable and constant.
Tyre choice will be part of the sponsorship pack for the event

Schumacher yellow mini spikes are okay on high grip carpet i certainly wouldn't want to use a harder compound tyre on carpet/slippy floor.

The Mid-South Map (http://tinyurl.com/lkur6k)
Its the old greenham common army base, now a trading estate, ample (careful where) parking and and the New Greenham Tandoori across the road.

Oh Alec, is your back still playing up mate cause you're doing some serious moaning just lately!! :)
The reasons for choosing these tyres are obvious in my opinion. The tyre market is larger than just one company and everyone will be on the same tyre so its down to the driver anyway.
Just come along, enjoy yourself, have a moan, eat some stag chilli and have a laugh!!! Don't say you'll never use the tyres again cause it would appear that many clubs are deciding to run these tyres!

I've no problem using different tyres, Schumacher, Ballistics, Proline OR TURF RIPPERS, .........BUT surely you use the best tyre for the surface you are racing on???? And of course you are correct, it's the same for everyone and all down to the driving. The same drivers will win whatever tyres they use, it's only the lower drivers that will struggle ........... But they are the ones who keep the clubs going week in week out, not the top drivers!!!!
I don't think I ever mentioned in any of my posts that 'I'll never use the tyres again' , the only club I know who have used them as the nominated tyre was your Silverstone club for the F2 event and most people there used Ballistics!!!
I certainly haven't been to anywhere that uses them (indoors) to good effect, but, as I say, good luck to those that want to
I'm sure your new sponsor CML will supply you plenty of them as they are the distributor ;):D

Alec, I love you to death but always speak facts - I used turf rippers all day at the F2s and finished second only to Tony Truman and I obviously thought they were better than Ballistics.
The tyres are fine and will work and will last and we get them free in our entry and it's the same for everyone and yes it's the sponsors of the event tyre.
I personally hope they don't grip as much and would prefer it to frip rolling everywhere - this way you can also leave your buggies with a outside set up that generates grip rather than trying to loose grip.
i think it's a good choice, especially as it's free - LOL

We now only have 27 spaces left for 2WD on the Saturday & 53 spaces left for 4WD on the Sunday.
As as few racers have contacted us with issues booking in, i thought I would add a few notes to aid booking in :D
You need to Register as a user on www.mkgp.co.uk (http://www.mkgp.co.uk) before you can book in.
Registering on the site DOES NOT mean you have entered the meeting....
Click "Race Calender" then select event to book in, your entry will only be accepted with a Paypal payment.
You can only book a 2WD car in for the Saturday & a 4WD in for the Sunday.
The site will say that 4WD is full on the Saturday & 2WD is full on the Sunday as we are not running those clases on that day.
Hope this helps, if any one still has issues booking in, please contact us

Just an update on the tyre rules:
Cutting of the Spike is allowed
Cutting of the internal ribs is allowed
Tyre additive is NOT allowed
Soaking tyres in additive/chemicals before the meeting is NOT allowed
Heating tyres in an oven before the meeting is NOT allowed
I know the last one is a bit random but have heard people saying thay are thinking of trying this!!!
Any one found to be "cheating" will be excluded from the meeting!!!
At the end of the day, all we want is a fun days racing

Marc,
Another solution would be to 'mark' the hand out tyres for the racers to use. If they need a 2nd or 3rd set they can bring them to a steward in the sealed bag so we can open them up mark them up as well. Can be done by having a 2nd person when booking in on the day is done.
It's a sad state of affiars when cheating is being talked about in what is a competitive but fun meeting  .

RudeTony

I do not think there is reason to be concerned or to run checks on tyres.
If someone was to cheat and was found out then his name would be ruined in our sport - I am sure no one would do that either.
We all like advantages but no one in our sport is a cheat in my opinion.
I don't want nail varnish on mine please but if you do i want a bright pink - LOL
I also echo Marcs post - The reason it's all on the same tyes is to be fun and competitive not for cheats - they simply are not welcome.
As for the Oven - Jesus there are some strange people out there!!!!! :)
Tony beat me to it – echo his points exactly – you might as well give up racing if you feel the need to cheat. Still, handy for Marc to just make it absolutely clear so no-one is confused.:)
However my top tip for you all is to smear your rear tyres in 40wt shock oil and stick in the freezer overnight. If you want more grip, just go up on the shock oil weight.
Really looking forward to this!!

After speaking with Rob Rasey & Neil who are helping run this event, we will not be marking tyres as this will be to much of a ball ache :bored:
BUT any one found to be cheating will be asked to leave, if that happens to be on the Saturday, they will also be banned from the Sunday & no refund for entry will be given.
Also, if I find ANY of my Team drivers cheating, they WILL loose there team drive!

2wd now at 120.... awaiting payment now from just 6 people :D
Reserve list STILL open :wub
Normally I clean the beads of my tyres with Meths to remove any mould release before gluing them. I presume this is still OK at this event and wouldn't be considered additive?

I have some very important news regarding the tyre choices for the MK GP to be help next month. After some extensive testing recently at various indoor race tracks locally around MK Racing, we the organisers have decided the Fastrax Turf Ripper tyre are NOT suitable for competitive indoor racing on the surfaces we are providing. Therefore the tyre will be dropped and there will not be a control tyre. ANY widely commercially available tyre can be used.
We realise this situation is far from ideal and its been a very difficult decision to make. However we see the meeting being a success based on this change of rules rather than people have undriveable and inconsistent cars. We’d rather take the flack and moaning now and have a really good, hard and fast competitive race meeting than have a numerous complaints on the day and unhappy racers.
We have decided to reduce the entry fee for this event based on the above information. The new entry price will be £12.00 per class. To give 200+ drivers a refund via PayPal will personally take me days to manually send through so we are proposing the following scheme. When you book in on the day you will be given £3 in cash as your refund, this will come from a pre allocated amount of money (£3 x entered drivers). Should any monies be left over from this pot the remainder will be split between two charities, HELP for HEROES and CHILDREN in NEED. I hope that maybe many of you can still the see the benefit of this meeting at £15.00 and will waive the refund to charity. Saying that, times are hard for all at present and if people want the £3 there will be no issues! (in the interests of clarity, a receipt will be posted up on o0ple stating the charitable donation in the week after the event)
I’m sure they’ll be lots of posts and I’ll do my best to give frank and honest answers but please remember that this has not been an easy decision by us but we do feel it needed to be done. I will be emailing all drivers as well, but in case of missing mails, please spread the word.

:lol::lol::lol::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Good call, guys  - turf rippers really did not work on carpet - going in a straight line was a handful!!!

No pain, no gain...
Without a free set of tyres (all being not great ones), £12 is now a little on the steep side me thinks, but I understand if you have overheads to cover....

I think this is a shit decision . With everyone on the same tyres its all down to setup and skill and give the people with not a lot of money to spend a good days fun racing. And as for the people moaning about the tyres that supposedly don't work, tell them to go somewhere else because with 120+ booked in who knew the rules from the start there are plenty of people who want to race.

Pinks indoors Neil??? Are you mad??? LOL
Whites (or maybe Blue) all the way indoors if chosen from the Ballistic range, but not the softest compound designed to run on dirt (pink)..

TURF RIPPERS are exactly that, they rip turf, not carpet or slippery bits
whoever chose these as an indoor control tyre needs some serious rethinking to do
Surely you didn't even have to test them locally to prove that.....Surely?

If there is anyone that doesn't want to go now I'm sure people on the reserve list will be happy to take your place. Just do the kind thing & cancel in time to let them make their arrangements :)

Glad i aint taken mine out of the packet, they will be going back:p
as for people moaning about the tyres (yes i was one) EVERYONE would have been in the same boat, i do belive it's called a level playing field:)
as for those that brought some to test, oh well, such is life, but really it aint the worst thing in the world, just about everyone who is booked in has either mini pins or D boots

It was the organisers that decided not to run the tyres, because they don't work indoors!!!! not because of people moaning!!!
The event was full so everyone had accepted the control tyres, but if it means a decent race by running the correct tyres its the best thing that could happen!

I would hope that someone organising a major indoor off road event would know if a certain tyre works or not from the start

TBH most people i've spoken to booked in for this despite there being a crappy control tyre stipulation. we all knew it would be a great meeting as we've been to them before. the 2008GP was Epic
yes it would have been the same for everyone (crap) but the top guys would still win! surely its better for everyone to be able to use tyres that work so you can concentrate on racing rather than just having to work hard just trying to get your car round! and yes when i saw some turd rippers being tested indoors a couple of weeks ago they did look THAT BAD!
i'm happy for a few quid to go to Help for Heroes & i hope everybody else feels the same. if it wasn't for the sacrifices these guys make then maybe none of us would even have the freedom to race toy cars! let alone worry about not getting a set of free tyres that wont even work at this meeting!
