What damage did you do to the van?
Are you all OK, by the looks of the pictures it looked like you were shaken but had a nice fall .;)

we were all perfectly fine thankfully! not sure what the damage was, engine sure smelt bad, stayed clear of that, think one of the wheels had come off and the seats inside had all come off! seat belts didnt really help when the seats wernt anylonger attachted!

First, glad your OK. Most important.
Second, by the looks of the tyre marks he was not even on the correct side of the road before the apex...
Third.. looking at the shadow there were big pointy spikes on a fence on the inside of the corner. so it is a good they were not on the outside of the corner, else you and your friends may have been skewered.

We sure as hell won't be seeing that taxi driver ever again, we got the boss of the taxi firm to the scene of the crash..., been told by several drivers that stopped by that there have been several crashes very similar to this one on this corner as it is pretty tight and the when the road is cold and abit icy like it was today many vehicles have ended up in that ditch

i hate taxi drivers and bus drivers:thumbdown:
ditto!!! i was in a taxi with my girlfriend in doncaster in the summer on way back to the station and the guy swerved off at one point i saw in the mirror he was falling asleep at the wheel so i told him to stop and that we'd walk the rest of the way and argued and won a free fair out of him, and buses...dont even get me started
LEGEND

Same here i have never really liked taxi or bus drivers either. Your friends there look a bit older and taller than you, wouldn't you agree.;) But then again i was very surprised when you said you were 17.

my mates are only a tiny bit taller than me! we are all the same age well im one of the oldest out the lot in the crash today

You are one lucky fella. I know you shouldn't jump to conclusions but was the taxi legit? It looks really ropey to me. The comment about the seats coming out is rather worrying to say the least as the local Council is meant to carry out stringent test on all taxi's to avoid that sort of thing. Glad you are OK though, it'll be something to tell your kids in a few years!!

looking at the tire marks, you were on the wrong side of the road for a while.
a gentle roll is better than a head on I guess. glad you were all ok. Bet is was scary as fook though. you kind of expect your taxi to get you to your destination without crashing!

Yeh the taxi was legit, was fine on way up, the model year was a tad old but was upto regulations,
Driver started turned then cos the road was abit icy on the inside just went straight into the curb and off we went into the ditch, was not very impressed, was an expierience to remember though and hopefully my last!

I'm making a claim now as after checking myself for and cuts i found multiple bruses on my shoulder blades and hip and a lil bump on my head, and put a big scar on my new shoes that were cost me a fair bit so want them replaced hope it all goes down well :) Anyone got any good tips for claiming?

12-02-2008, 09:30 PM
Yep, really lay it on thick with the docs!
Also...on a serious note.
You may feel ok for the few hours after an accident. Then you may feel pains and affects later on the next week or so....sometimes longer.
I had an accident when I fisrt started driving. Someone decided to park their renault estate into the boot of my mk3 escort.
I was soooo pumped up with adrenelin that I just got out of the car and wanted to kill the bloke in the other car (seeing as my mum, dad, and little bro was inthere too). I was like this for a while after and only started to feel an affect of the accident about a week later, and my back and neck haven't been the same since, and I still get similar pains now. And I didn't claim, because back then their wasn't these 'no win no fee' people around and it took years to drag it through courts and the likes. So we didn't bother because we didn't think we'd get too much out of it.
But now, people are stopping you on the street and asking if you've been in accidents that wasn't your fault.

1. In an ideal world, don't bother. As per Showtime's posting what goes round comes round and more claims pushes up the cost of insurance which may put another company out of business etc etc. You could shrug off the cuts thankful in the fact you came out of it OK and just send the taxi's Insurers a letter with a photo of your damaged shoes and a copy of the original receipt to prove how much you paid for them.
2. However, as we don't live in the ideal world, I recommend you seek a free consultation with a reputable solicitor. Many will look at your case on a no win no fee basis but make sure you read the small print. Before doing this you may want to consider that you may well have to see a few Doctors for them to compile reports etc and it will be a faff. If your injuries, pain and suffering are genuine you will have nothing to worry about.
Did you get the Insurance details for the cab firm or were/are they reluctant to provide them?

That should be an interesting conversation.. Technically if they do it properly they should not make any offers or admissions of liability to you at all. Doing so would in all likelihood be breaching the terms and conditions of their insurance policy and could lead to their Insurers refusing to protect them. However, they should be able to provide you with the identity of their Insurers including the address, the policy number and hopefully a contact telephone number.
Not trying to dissuade you from claiming - all I'm saying is keep it real and try not to sink to the level of laying it on thick to bump up the compo - if we all did that this country will go down the pan :(.

Thats what happened here in NI, insurance costs are mega over here. Im 23, had the license for 4 1/2 years and to insure myself on my girlfriends 115bhp mk4 TDI golf would cost me £1500...
Mike, were the police at the scene?
I assume they were due to the fact there is a van parked in the ditch, but if they weren`t and they did not take a statement from you and the driver then it could be very difficult to get his details out of him.
This happened to me a few years ago, i got reversed into by a luton van and the fella was greek i think, he didnt have his details in the van and said he would pay to get the car fixed without going through the insurance, i felt fine at the time, but as tel says it was a few days later when i was starting to stiffen up, i ended up seeing a physio etc and the car was all twisted too, in short he was very reluctant to give out his details as he had already had 4 accidents that year and because the police were not at the scene they wanted nothing to do with it and would not help me in anyway to get his details:mad:

I would take them for every penny i could get, and as for insurance company's bumping the price up because loads of people claim when there is nowt wrong with them, "Its a load of tosh" they would bump the prices up still if nobody ever claimed, haven't you heard we live in rip off britain.

Its the insurance company I'm sorry for. How would you guys like to face a room full of angry shareholders and try to explain that they only had £940 billion to share out cuz their profits had slumped this year by £30,000
This van is back on the road!!!
