how much lead weight should i put in the front of the mad rat to stop it from popping wheelies all the time and also put some extra grip onto the front tyres

Cut some lead flashing to sit under the servo, should be around 15g... Try that and go from there, think i run about 25-30g in my X2C...

I had about 80g in my mad rat, all around the servo and in front bulkhead. Cured the understeer.

I run with a 78g brass weight under the servo and 121g under the lipo perfect handling

will putting some lead flashing above the servo make the same difference (i know about COG and stuff like that) but was wondering if it would make any difference

Try and keep it low as possible. Leads weights to side of servo, under steering rack etc

Basically the heavier you make the car the more forgiving it becomes over bumps and going over curbs. Putting the weight under the lipo sort of places the weight in a fairly neutral spot.

Also some older cars design was based on the old nimh cells which were heavier. So you need to add weight under the lipo to get a decent balance.
