Hi guys,
pending some final testing the Full Option tower is ready to go. This should fix the issue of breaking towers at the weak point that has been heavily discussed on the forum. Other requests from racers and forum members such as more camber link positions have also been addressed.
These will be £27.50 shipped. Please see the > Full Option site (http://www.fulloption.co.uk/MadMonkey.html) < for details.

Very nice work! Only thing id say is to leave some more material on the tower, it looks a little on the weak side... I dont mind being proved wrong though

Kevin, Tom, thanks.
we'll see if you are right in the imminent testing. Production versions can go out with more anyway as it won't exactly add a lot of weight! I might add also that the two components will be available separately, should either be damaged in a crash.

I've known Dave at Full Option for a very long time, and I know his work and materials are of the best quality. I've seen many many things he's made and they are always amazing- but it still shocks me every time he does something new, just how bloody lovely he makes things!!
have mine ready for friday dave...anodized ;) (10mins)

Hot Diggety!! that looks cool, well done for making one so quick, I agree with Tom, could do with a slightly thicker carbon but other than that very cool, I shall be ordering very soon.
Tom3012

Maybe not thicker but just leave more material near the top, potentially dont even cut out the spaces underneath where the shocks mount... Hope that makes sense?

Slighty smaller holes on the tower, you mean, agree, that was one of the weakness on the plastic one, not enough material on a crucial area in my opinion.

Yeah thats what i meant :p
Potentially you dont even need them...

ok so would you prefer a solid tower with no cut outs at all?
at the end of the day dave will make it if you want it

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
I'm keen to produce what people want and need for this. As quickly as possible and to a high standard. Here are the remodelled towers based on comments from the forum. I removed the outboard lightening holes and changed the centre hole to reduce stress concentration. Produced a short run of 3.
About the gearbox failures... I would think you'd have to set off a bomb under the car to damage that. The aluminium part of this shock tower bolts up to the gearbox in 6 places. Should be strong enough for most hits.

maybe a daft question, but would this also fit an X2C? having not compared the two cars in front of me i thought i'd ask others with more experience of both cars.

Yes, X2C and Mad Monkey have the same part number for the rear shock tower.

I like the tower on the left with the holes, not totally keen on the solid ones, i suppose it could give extra downforce, I will be ordering before the euro off road series for my Monkey, not keen on going with out more than a few spare towers.

Eric you will need the stronger one if they are using that Jump from the petit race last year :woot:
Longrat did you get my pm? :)

YeahI know what you mean about that Jump, lets hope they have lost it and never to be returned!!

don't be dubious full options work and materials are the best I've seen. We beat the living snot out of the prototype one at the weekend (the one with the machined out tower) deliberately landing the car upside down off the doubles on astroturf, and had no issues with the machined one. so the production one with no cut outs should be damn near bullet proof

Here's the kit contents of the production version.

I hope those people who have already received their towers can post some feedback, hopefully this will end the woes with the kit tower. Last weekend we had an awesome session at the track where the prototype tower again performed as expected. Can't wait to get out there again.

The top layer of carbon has split on mine on the off side down the run of holes were wing mounts go. But other than that so far its been great

That's odd, just out of curiosity did you seal the edges of the carbon with superglue?

No just put it straight on, its not actually all the way the edge if the tower. Just a few mm above the top wing mount hole. I will try and upload a pic. It did it first night I used it and it hasn't got any worse since

Super glue the edges on all carbon fiber parts it will stop this happening
Drop some super glue on a cotton bud then run all around the edges job Done

Always superglue carbon and do more than one layer otherwise it will soak in and not seal it very well, Also look much better when edges are sended down and then glued.
And ill put in a word for how much beating that prototype tower got!!
My son ran one on his (soon to be mine:)) X2c at the weekend; No problems. It's the nutz!
Are you going to be selling the carbon part separately so that I can have a spare in the Pit Box (just in case)? If so, how much?
Dave Dodd

would it be possible to to have the alloy machined (less) in such a way as to be able to run the shock tower on the front, then you have the option to run flipped wihbones... As most team drivers do this..
LongRat
01-11-2011, 06:14 PM
Jez - yes, I sell the carbon part separately. They are £15 shipped.
Dave - that's not the first time someone has asked that. I will look into it. I don't want to add any more weight than necessary.

looking at the pictures, it would possibly mean less machining for you.. I dont think there would be that much weight involved.. cheers Dave

Out of interest how much weight difference is there between this and the original parts ?
Looks like a great bit of work btw

Well, the top end is lighter and the bottom end is heavier. There probably isn't a lot in it, sorry I can't give you any numbers as I don't have a kit standard tower here to compare against. The weight distribution in the Full Option tower is definitely preferable though.

Ha ha very good !!!
I just wondered how much difference there was and how much difference it makes to what weight needs to be added in the wet, I'll have to borrow Gordys and compare the two...
Are the towers 3mm or 4mm thick btw ?

its 3mm mate there's a picture of mine on the last page of the ansmann gallery

Might just invest in one in a week or two
Does it fit with big bore shocks?
How about with alloy rear brace?
