Hi, having issues at the moment with both front and rear diffs loosening themselves right off within seconds of running and losing drive completely. I tighten them up and they're fine for a few seconds, obviously I'm doing something wrong - any ideas please

Replace the nuts and make sure there the right way round.

Build them without the rubber washers shown in the manual.
These are the cause of your problem.

Mike, do you mean the rubber o-ring that goes around the head of the diff screw?

Yes mate, they bind up the thrust and cause the diff to loosen and tighten on its own.

Built the diff without the o-ring and if you're bothered about dirt getting in throw some foam down the outdrive when finished.

Spot on, rubber o ring was in 2 halves on the front diff and the rear was flat spotted around its circumference.
Both diffs nice and free and running perfectly at the moment without binding or spinning free.

Nice one Steve, thanks for the update

Another handy one regarding the diffs, is to put some thread lock on the diff screw and leave it to set over night.

Then when you build the diff the screw will lock in the Mr T Nut, because the thread lock is dry it wont vibrate loose but you will still be able to adjust the diff.

Just a quick update on the gearboxes - diffs have been faultless and the main drive gears are still as standard. I know some people have had issues on the forum with these but on my X4TE no problems to report - car running smooth and silent with 6.5t.
